Why was this decision made now?
A large group of Half.com sellers have successfully transitioned to eBay and are selling significant volume on both eBay and Half.com. Many of these sellers have reported growing their overall business by utilizing both platforms. Further, increased selection and product-based buying have attracted new buyers to eBay. As a result, we have a more vibrant marketplace for books, movies, music and video games on eBay. The combined success demonstrated to us that providing two vibrant platforms is the best way to maximize the books and media marketplace.

 

Will you decide to shut down Half.com at a later date?
No. Our plan is to keep Half.com open indefinitely.

 

Do you plan to make changes to the Half.com site ?
There will be no major changes to Half.com in the near future. Over time, we will be evaluating ways to enhance the Half.com marketplace. We will inform the Community of any potential changes.

 

Will you introduce listing fees to the Half.com marketplace?
No. We have no plans at this time to change the fee structure.

 

In encouraging us to list on both platforms, are you suggesting that sellers list the same items on eBay and on Half.com?
No, you should not list the same items on both eBay and Half.com unless you have multiple copies of those items. While you have the ability to cancel orders on Half.com, you cannot cancel listings on eBay. We do encourage you to list different items on eBay and Half.com to determine how you can benefit from the business opportunities on both platforms.

 

Does this decision mean that you will roll back some of the changes you've made to buying and selling of Books, Movies, Music and Games on eBay?
No. We have made many positive changes to the eBay platform over the past 18 months, including the introduction of Pre-filled Item Information, improved Stores functionality, enhanced discoverability of eBay Stores listings, Express Product Search and Express Sell Your Item. They have contributed to the growth that we have seen in these categories and will continue to be valuable features to enhance trading activity on eBay.

 

Are you doing this because the transition has not been going smoothly?
No. Quite the contrary, the transition from Half.com to eBay has been a success. Many Half.com sellers have successfully moved their inventory to eBay, and the increased selection has resulted in more buyers in the books and media categories. Yet, at the same time, we have not seen a corresponding drop in business on Half.com. Loyalty to Half.com has stayed strong. It is for this reason -- the success of the transition and the continued success of Half.com, combined with Community input -- that we?re deciding to keep both platforms running.
