How can I secure my account and identity if I provided information to a spoof (fake) website?

One of the biggest threats to the security of your eBay account and your identity is fraudulent email and websites, called spoofs. Spoof emails typically request that you send confidential information, such as passwords, social security numbers, or credit card numbers, in a reply email or enter this information through a spoof website.

If you provided confidential information through a spoof website, you should take measures to secure your eBay account and your identity.

  1. Secure your eBay account.

Change your eBay sign-in information (password and secret question) and verify that your eBay account information is correct. Learn how to secure your account and report account theft.

  2. Protect your financial accounts and identity.

Contact your credit card company and your bank, place a fraud alert on your credit reports, and file a police report. Learn what to do if you suspect identity theft.
