1. What is eBay Giving Works?
eBay Giving Works is a program which helps:
  • Nonprofits raise money to support their important causes
  • Individual buyers and sellers shop and sell for the causes they care about
  • Companies to support their communities and build their businesses
When sellers list their items for charity (using the Giving Assistant on MissionFish), they choose how much of the final selling price they would like to donate and which organization to benefit. Note that sellers must have a feedback rating of 10 or more, be ID Verified, or be pre-approved by the nonprofit they would like to support. Learn more about ID Verify.

2. What are the benefits of eBay Giving Works?
Sellers listing items through eBay Giving Works benefit because their items are easier to find and get extra exposure by being listed on eBay, the eBay Giving Works site, and on the MissionFish site.. MissionFish also provides a simple process to remit funds to the appropriate charity and a receipt for tax purposes.

Buyers can more easily find items supporting a cause, be assured the donation will reach the intended and pre-verified organization, and be satisfied in knowing they have made a difference.

3. Who is MissionFish and how is eBay working with them?
Since 2003, MissionFish has been eBay's exclusive charitable partner, helping to raise over a quarter billion dollars by powering the eBay Giving Works program. In 2011, eBay established the PayPal Charitable Giving Fund, an IRS-registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization to operate MissionFish and further its charitable purpose of helping nonprofits raise funds through online commerce.

The organization makes giving safe, easy and reliable by:
  • Certifying that nonprofits participants are tax-deductible and meet standards against hate, violence and intolerance.
  • Collecting donations from users and delivering them to nonprofits as intended.
  • Managing the tax benefits of giving.

4. Do eBay Giving Works listings appear with all other eBay listings?
Yes, all items listed through the Giving Assistant, provided by MissionFish, will be displayed with all other listings on eBay. eBay Giving Works listings will also appear within the eBay Giving Works site and on the Nonprofit Homepage on MissionFish.

When a buyer clicks on a charity item listed through Giving Works, the eBay Giving Works icon next to the title will denote that this is a listing benefiting a nonprofit. Additionally, a description of the recipient organization and the amount of the donation will be included in both the item description and payment and shipping details section of the listing. Buyers can search for eBay Giving Works items on the main eBay Giving Works page and on MissionFish.

5. Are there any special requirements to use the Giving Assistant provided by MissionFish?

7. What if my favorite nonprofit is not listed with MissionFish?
If your favorite nonprofit is not listed with MissionFish, you can recommend that they sign up and join or you can submit their information to MissionFish after eBay Giving Works launches. MissionFish will send an automatic email invitation to the nonprofit on your behalf.

8. How are donations collected and distributed to nonprofits?
MissionFish will have the sole responsibility of collecting donations from sellers and redistributing them to the benefiting nonprofits. When you register on MissionFish to list an eBay Giving Works item, you will create a seller account and put your credit card on file the same way you do on eBay.

After your listing closes, you are invited to make your contribution through the MissionFish payment interface. If you have not made your contribution by the second Monday following the successful close of your listing, MissionFish will charge your credit card for the designated amount, hold your donation to ensure the finality of the sale, and forward your gift (net a small processing fee) to the recipient nonprofit on the 20th of the second month after your listing has successfully closed.

9. Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?
A receipt for every contribution you make through eBay Giving Works will be available in your MissionFish account.
