Essay:
"Life's Lessons" - I have been scrapbooking the "past" of my children's lives for 10 years. I'd like to scrapbook their future, with sound advice coming from people important and close to them. My children are lucky to have FIVE of their great-grandparents still living (ages 80-90) and all FOUR of their grandparents living, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and very special friends! Having their most precious life advice documented is very important to any child's heritage. I'd like to encourage other scrapbookers to scrap their future through the creation and sharing of this album. This interactive scrapbook would feature pop-outs/ups, removable inserts, and possibly actual voices on the pages. A traditional nostalgic feel would grace each page, as well as many current scrapbook trends such as rubber stamping, and fiber, metal, and bead art embellishments. Because of my obsessed interest in creative photo cropping and digital editing of photos, this book will become an amazing tribute to all the neat things you can do to photos using your computer and scissors! I have been an avid eBay buyer for over 7 years, purchasing many scrapbook items through this format. I know how to hunt and find very unique items, usually at phenomenal prices! With eBay's assistance, I will find all the supplies needed to complete this book and make it the inspirational journey that everyone should travel! |
Deene is in a Master's degree program on education, focusing on teaching children values. "This contest really resonated with me, so I decided to develop a scrapbook with advice for my children as a kind of legacy from me," she says. As a result, she assembled an interactive format that featured pop-outs/ups, removable inserts, and actual voices on the pages. Its content includes advice shared by her aunt from her own journal, which she has kept since her youth, and a hand-written letter from Deene's grandmother. Deene explains, "Computers are great, but we never write letters by hand anymore. Everything is e-mailed. My grandmother wrote this beautiful letter to my children in her gorgeous handwriting. It needs to be preserved with her advice." In recent years, raising a family has put Deene's scrapbooking on the back burner, but, ironically, her New Year's resolution this year was to bring all her books up to date. So the announcement of this contest was particularly timely.
An avid eBay buyer for more than seven years, Deene first logged on after her daughter was born, when she was looking for unusual baby clothes that were unavailable in Tulare, CA. She recalls, "I found tons of great children's clothes on eBay. Then I discovered great things for the house. Eventually, I began selling as well. eBay brings the thrill of the hunt right to your home. I've never been disappointed in a transaction, and I've always been highly impressed by the integrity of the people who participate there."
