Where can I park in New Orleans?

    General parking:
Here at eBay Live! 2004 we want to be helpful, so we want to let you know that we can't guarantee the exact dollar and hour figures given for hotel, parking, and tourist sites in New Orleans. Always call ahead and you'll always come out ahead!

The Hilton New Orleans Riverside (2 Poydras St., 504-561-0500) operates the parking in the open lot right next to Hall A at the Morial Convention Center. There are 1,000 spots in this lot. Two other lots close by are the Hilton covered garage (675 spots) and the World Trade Center parking garage (1,000). These parking spots will not be reserved for eBay Live! attendees but will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

These were the 2003 rates, so there might be some changes in 2004:

    0-1 hour $5
    1-2 hours $6
    2-4 hours $8
    4-6 hours $9
    6-12 hours $10

Harrah's Casino (512 S. Peters St., 800-VIP-JAZZ) has two public parking areas located across Convention Center Blvd. from the Hilton, with 1,000 spots in the main lot and 500 in a backup lot. Rates are similar to the Hilton's.

    Campsite and RV parking:
We've found the most convenient sites for you if you plan to "rough it" for the weekend.

    Handicap parking:
Parking for the handicapped is limited but available. The Morial Convention Center maintains 10 handicap parking spaces in a lot across Convention Center Blvd. from Hall I. The daily rate is $10 (as it is for all parking).

Closer in, there are nine handicap spaces available in the Riverwalk shopping mall, across Julia St. from Hall A, one of the eBay Live! venues. These spots are charged hourly and fill up quickly, so it's best to get there early in the morning.

How to keep yourself safe when you're away from home
New Orleans is no more dangerous than any other big city, but you will be in a new place so it's good to review some useful reminders. Don't leave your common sense in your hotel room! Here are some tips to keep in mind:
    1. Stick to main thoroughfares and well-lit, populated areas.
    2. Do not display large amounts of cash in public places.
    3. Remove the name badges and convention wear when not attending functions.
    4. Stow valuables out of sight in your vehicle.
    5. If you're not parking in a lot or garage, park in heavily trafficked areas and read parking signs to avoid tickets and towing. If you do park in a lot or garage, conduct business only with an attendant who has clearly marked and visible identification.
    6. Have you been drinking, or intend to go out for a drink? Consider taking a taxi.
    7. While you're on the street, don't participate in shell games and beware of hustlers offering shoe shines or wanting to make bets with you.
    8. Remember the same laws enforced in your city are most likely enforced in New Orleans as well.
    Dress for success
New Orleans enjoys a subtropical climate with pleasant year-round temperatures. In June the typical maximum temperature is 90 degrees. The typical minimum is 72 degrees.

It's gets humid, though. Bring light, comfortable clothes, with a sweater for evenings. A raincoat and umbrella are also a good idea. Because the French Quarter and the Morial Convention Center are best explored on foot, we recommend comfortable shoes designed for lots of walking.

The informal dress code for eBay Live! is what's called "business casual" these days. For men, this generally means slacks and a button-down shirt. For women, casual skirts, slacks, blouses, and dresses will fill the bill.
