How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I have used eBay since 1999.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I first learned about eBay from a news show that featured in 1999.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
With both work and home usage, I am on an average of 10-12 hours per day. I surf usually once or twice an hour.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
The most unique Item I plan on listing is the opportunity for a buyer to be listed in my will as an heir to my comic book memorabilia collection. The most unique item I have bought is a super rare 1972 Stan Lee "Carnegie Hall" appearance poster in near mint condition.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I have only one strategy in buying, search multiple keywords for a particular item. Some people do not list an item in the correct category and as a consequence do not reach all the potential buyers possible. I get the best deals this way when buying. When selling, I research the best possible category to list in or use a "second category" listing option.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Advertising is everything, so list in the proper category. Use as many terms as possible in your title to give the most keywords possible for potential buyers who are searching the site. When buying, use as many keywords that pertain to the item you are seeking. Do not limit your search to a single category in the browse section.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Having 100% positive feedback in both selling and buying categories shows my reliability and assures both a seller and bidder.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Not yet.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
I recommended all users, novice or pro, to use the help and discussion boards. They are informative and usually provide a quick response to an inquiry.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, eBay has changed my life in the sense that it has given me a medium to find practically everything I am seeking without the hassle of traffic jams or retail opening/closing times. I can shop from my own home and have the product delivered to my door.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The "Second Category" listing has been a great help, as some buyers search only one category and may not come across your item. The "Buy It Now" has been great for purchasing something right away without the 7-10 day wait and risk of being outbid.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I buy and sell on eBay and have great experiences with both. I often buy collections for only one item in it. I re-list the unwanted parts and usually end up making a profit.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
The one thing I had searched for since 1986 was a rare poster advertising a 1972 appearance by Marvel Comic's Stan Lee at Carnegie Hall. The poster was printed for local distribution only, a very small amount produced, and since they were used for advertising the event they were mainly found in low-grade conditions. I just recently found one that was unused and in near mint condition. It was not listed in the category that would have given it the most exposure to collectors, and I purchased it one hour after it was listed using the "buy it now" option. I paid a small fraction of its value and probably would never have come across one outside of eBay.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
To me, eBay is a way of life. It is the most affordable medium for sellers to advertise their goods to a world market, as well as for buyers to find that one particular item they have been searching for but may never have found due to their location. eBay is also becoming part of the vernacular and establishing itself in the culture. Now, whenever a person finds a collectible that's worth a lot of money, they will look at another person and utter one word, "eBay!"

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been using eBay to sell and buy since Dec 15,1996 for selling and buying.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
My husband bought me a computer and when I wasn't using it [he] told me he was going to get rid of it if I didn't start using it, and at the time I had been going to some auctions, so I just typed in the word auction in the search line and up popped eBay and its been fun ever since.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
Many times everyday.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
[I] sold a real pickled Siamese pig in a jar, bought it at an auction for $16.00 and sold for over $400.00. [I] don't remember the exact amount.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
When selling I research things that have sold of which I might have and see how they were presented and how many people looked at them. The same with buying things I research what has sold and what it sold for to help me know what I might have to bid to get an item.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Be as accurate in your descriptions as possible without getting carried away with the length, state condition as it really is, pictures are important but if they take forever to load people get tired of waiting and go to something else at least I do. No music or fancy cursors that run around the screen they are very distracting. Make sure your terms for payments, shipping and things like that are clear to the bidders.

Again when wanting to buy something use the great "completed items" feature and see if an item like or similar to what you are looking for sold in the last 30 days and what it went for. Don't ask people to end auctions early to give you the chance to buy things from them its not only against rules, but very rude. Who knows what that last minute bidder might pay for something they really want.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
I think feedback has improved my sales especially since I have gone over 5000 and am not a power seller, I know people check my feedback, because lots of times people will say since you have such a good feedback we wont hold your check for clearing and things like that.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Not much, unless I have a question about some item that a discussion board may help with. I would rather be listing than chatting.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
A new member may find them of great help, they can answer a lot of question for them, and places like "The Park" are nice to use and the people are very friendly and you can get some great buys for yourself or for resale.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Well change, yes, I was able to retire early from my job in the Emergency Room of our local hospital. My husband has learned a new respect for my judgment of buying things, like that pig, he laughed at me when I bought it and I like they say I Laughed All The Way To The Bank. Now he never questions when I say I will get this or that to sell on eBay. My house will never be the same, as any seller knows unless you have a second building that you use to store eBay things, you have lost a good bit of each and every room. One of the best things after early retirement is all the great friends I have made selling and buying, one especially from South Carolina who I now consider my best friend and it all started over a copper canister set that I bought from her, we visit each other every summer and have seen each other thru some hard times and without eBay I would have never known her.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
I can't think of any one thing that is most helpful unless it would be the ability to search past sold items for research, there are so many helpful features, I think using the tutorials is very helpful also.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I have bought so many things for myself and it's a saying around this house if you are looking for something that you can't buy at the grocery, "HAVE YOU CHECKED ON EBAY FOR IT?"

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
Nothing yet, but if I win the lift chair for the stairway that I am bidding on right now you can bet it will make a dramatic change is the pain I suffer getting up and down the stairs.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay Means-Not having to go out in the cold to work. Having extra cash without going to a job where some else is the boss I like being my own boss. Afternoon naps not just 15-minute breaks. Working when I want to work and making enough money to get my PT CRUISER ™.

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
Oct 28, 1998 was when I first signed up. I mostly sell Tatouage Mural items, and I am a Trading Assistant as well. I sometimes buy cameras or lenses, or something the kids want.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I heard about it through a Disney convention, where I was told by a vendor to "try eBay" for the item I was trying to sell. (It was a Grolier Disney character carousel.)

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
About three times a day - either for research or something I want to bid on.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
I sold a Disney employee jacket, which was almost impossible to get, and even harder to find, now! It was an actual part of the "costume" employees use for the uniform. But I have sold everything from a Chevy Truck, to Japanese anime, to women's clothing, to hard-to-find record albums.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
To sell items, I use as many pictures as I can, and describe everything with as many details as possible. And I use spell check! When I want to purchase something, I always decide in advance what my top price will be, but not bid until the last day. That way, if the item has gone beyond my limit, I have not wasted time or effort on that auction. There will always be another auction for the same item!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
The same as I tell my Trading Assistant customers - do your research! If you have an item you want to sell - or buy - watch auctions for that item for at least a week. See what the going price is, and compare auctions to other Internet sources. Then your expectations will be more realistic, and you will know if you want to sell your item (or buy one) for that price.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Since I have a rating over 1,000, I believe that I have a rating that proves I am a reliable seller. There are other sellers "out there" who sell the same product, but do not have the guarantee, quick service, or packaging that I offer.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Sometimes I do participate in either the AOL Chat room, or Seller's Discussion Boards. Usually about once a month, I check to see if there is anything new, or that I feel should be discussed more in depth.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
You can't get answers to your questions, if you don't ask! Even if you just say, "hi, I'm new", you have made contact with other sellers who can help you, or give you ideas.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
YES! I have the extra income, since I am a stay-at-home mom. I can buy those extra things that kids always seem to need, and still be here for them to help with homework.

I was able to afford to become a Tatouage Consultant, and that also gave a boost to eBay sales.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Invoicing Service has been absolutely wonderful! I don't have to look up the customer's email, type up the invoice, and send it, wondering if they received it. With the automatic service, the email is already filled out, and I only have to hit "send". What a time saver! Second choice would be Live Help. If I have a question, I can get it answered fairly quickly, instead of waiting days for an email that may or may not answer the question.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I mainly use eBay to sell the Tatouage rub-on transfers for murals. But occasionally, a customer wants to sell something, and I assist them. I just made a purchase from a seller for a camera lens. My husband is currently looking for Mech Warrior toys - er, figures.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I purchased an oxygen machine for my grandfather. His doctor would not prescribe one, and the machines are expensive to purchase from medical supply stores. Buying one on eBay, with my whole family participating in the purchase, has brought my family closer together. And it has helped him dramatically for his breathing!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means income, to be blunt. But, I also get to meet many people, across the nation, that I would not otherwise have contact with. I get to help people, on my own hours, and not interfere with my kid's schedule. I also get to find items for a better price than I would in the stores. eBay is a money-, time-, and sanity saver!

Collectibles and Jewelry/loose beads

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I've been a member since August of 2000. However, I did not start selling whole hog until May or June of this year. And once that bug bit, I was hooked on selling. I still buy quite a bit. From dog treats to jewelry supplies, I find the best buys right here. Leave the house? There's no reason to, with eBay.

As for selling, I'm addicted to porcelain hinged boxes. I love those little boogers. When I buy them, to get the best price, I buy more than one, up to five at a time, which really doesn't get me the best price, now doesn't it? But it works out in the end, because that is the bulk of what I sell on eBay.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Everyone has heard of eBay, haven't they? I don't know anyone, even those who do not use a computer, that hasn't heard of eBay. Even my parents, who still think computers are just a fad, know I sell and buy on eBay, and ask me about my experience on here often. They even call me, if they've seen one of the eBay commercials, to ask if I've seen it.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
Every day, hour, minute. I can be online, perusing eBay, at any given moment. I'll wake up during the night thinking of something I might want to purchase, and I consult eBay before anywhere else. If I can wait on an item, I'll watch eBay to see if it's ever listed, and it usually is. Someone is always selling something on eBay, which means, eventually, everything and anything someone might want is right here! I've even addicted a few of my friends on eBay, so we can talk about our experiences.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
Although not as strange as some things I have seen here, I did sell a tealeaf reading cup and book. I never thought that would sell, but it received the first bid within the first few hours after I listed it. The strangest thing ever bought, although it is very common, but just sounds weird, is a box of 100 pigs ears... for my two dogs.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I always update my email signature line to reflect my new listings. So, those folks I email can just click on over to the item, and hopefully bid. I also utilize eBay Groups and Discussions, and all the Share-Your-Wares posts as possible. They truly do help to sell items. There are quite a few Groups and Discussion members who just buy things, and they're always looking at those Share-Your-Wares. Most everything I've posted in there has sold. When purchasing an item, I always keep it in my My eBay even after bidding has ended and the bid has gotten higher than I had wanted to pay, just to see if the seller lists another of the same item. A trick that has worked on several occasions.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
As a buyer, my first action before bidding on an item is to look at the seller's feedback. Negative feedback does not affect my decision to bid or not. What does give me pause is the seller's response to negative feedback. If the seller is nasty in their remarks, I move on. There's no excuse for being mean and hateful. So, my tips would be to put the customer first and always be nice, no matter what.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
I blush when reading some of my feedback. It makes me feel good to know that I eventually made an auction winner happy with what they received. I think that's how my feedback has improved my reputation, by my written responses to those less-than-enthusiastic feedback statements.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I'm more active in eBay Groups, as opposed to the Discussions, except for The Park in the General Discussions Groups area. I'm a member of The Golden Oldies Friendly 30s 40s 50s +, SELLER CENTRAL, Beads, beads and more beads, Creators with a Cause and a few more eBay Groups.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
To new members I would say that it's important to stay connected to those who sell and buy the same items you do, and also just to stay connected to other eBayers.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
eBay has changed the way I speak and write. I actually use the word 'eBayer(s)' quite often. It has also literally changed my life. Living with a disability, I developed a lifestyle dedicated to compensating for my condition. Now, that I have others depending on me, even if it is just to get a package shipped, I make it happen. I appreciate every eBay customer for giving me a quality of life I have not had in a while.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Oh, by far, the most helpful feature is the Live Help chat. I got answers right away. Friendly, expert advice. It's wonderful!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
As I mentioned, I buy many items through eBay. You cannot get a better deal on doggy treats anywhere, on or off the Web. Unusual items catch my eye on occasion, such as a vintage Politic Party t-shirt I could not pass up. I mainly use eBay to sell, now, but as a buyer, I try to find my everyday items on eBay in bulk. That way, I can have them delivered straight to my house, allowing me even more time to do the thing I like best, which is eBaying, of course!

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
The one purchase that has truly changed the way I live is the pigs ears. I can't help it. It saves me so many trips to the pet store. I have two very large dogs. So, you can imagine, the trips were frequent, VERY frequent!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay has given me a quality of life I thought I'd never have again. eBay has connected me to others, like myself, who suffer with life-limiting afflictions and also with folks who just like to buy and sell on the web.

It truly is a community, one that I intend to be a member of for life.

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been using eBay Site for a little over 4 years. I use it mostly to Sell Antique/Vintage Jewelry, but I also Designer Clothing that is discounted.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I heard about eBay from a friend back in 1999.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
I visit eBay at least 3-4 times a day to check on my auctions and look at others, as well as answer any questions that people may have for me.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
The most Unique Items that I bought on eBay were Vintage Russian Posters from the Soviet Era. The most unique Item I sold on eBay was an Antique Peacock Rhinestone Pin from the early 1930's that was in immaculate shape, and absolutely gorgeous.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My main strategy is not to mark up any items that I sell too high; that turns people away if they have a budget, and also I use html coding (e.g. background color, font color, etc.) to make it look very appealing, and not too generic.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Start out at the lowest price that would still make you a profit. Don't list an item for as much as you hope it would sell for, most of the time it will get bid higher than what you first listed it for.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Feedback rating is the most clever and amazing thing that was ever invented. It allows me as the seller to check out what people have said about my bidders, and to know in advance if I may have problems with getting payment or other things.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I usually don't due to lack of time, but would like to in the future.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
The help section has really helped me when I first started out, and I still check it out for references.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, my life has definitely changed since I started selling and buying on eBay. There are many things that I have not been able to find anywhere, and I know that I can always find it on eBay!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The best feature that has been most helpful to me is the photo uploading. Before I had somewhere to upload my photos, I could always use eBay's, and now it has gotten even better.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
Yes, I have bought many items on eBay. I have bought Sports Memorabilia, which I would normally not know where to buy, as well as childrens items that were no longer in stores, for instance 'Nemo'™ toys from MacDonald's Happy Meals™, that they stopped carrying after a few weeks.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I bought a Laptop on eBay that helped me check my Auctions when I am traveling, as well as being able to communicate with my customers while I am away.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay to me is something I can do from home, on my schedule and at my own pace, and at the same time make extra money. I can do it from anywhere in the world and still be connected to my customers. eBay gave me an opportunity to have my own small business and be able to do it from home.

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I have used the site since June 1998, mostly buying and selling albums and 45's that may be used as the content of freelance articles and book material.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Someone recommended that I check the site out to find certain rare records that I had not been able to previously acquire.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
About four to five times a day.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
I purchased an album by the New Zealand rock band Dragon; the album was autographed by all six members at the time of its release (two have since passed away). It's one of my favorite records, and I have it framed and on my wall.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
When I buy, I try to use certain keywords in anticipation of how a person might spell an artist's name, and use a minus symbol ( "-" ) before words that I don't want to appear in my search. Typing "-karaoke", for example, eliminates most of the karaoke CD's from my search and makes it easier to find what I really want.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
When you're buying, ask the dealer questions about the item. If you're selling, answer the questions to the best of your ability.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
It's easy to accumulate a high feedback rating by simply buying lots of items. But since my spotless record involves buying AND selling, it shows that people can bid with confidence in my auction and receive their items safely; and it shows sellers that I will honor my bids as a winning bidder.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I actually hosted a well-received seminar in August 2002 about record collecting, including the proper packaging and shipping of fragile 78's and cylinders.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
The discussion boards are made up of eBay members, just like you. They have the answers to your questions, and you might have some of the answers to THEIR questions. If you participate, your information can help make everybody's eBay experience that much more fulfilling.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
I would say yes. With the avenue of Internet shopping and auctioning, eBay has helped enhance my personal record collection, as well as provided information and materials for future published articles.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The ability to pay electronically, both with PayPal and with Western Union Auction Payments, has helped tremendously. No "checks lost in the mail," no running to the post office to get a money order. A few clicks and payment is sent safe and secure.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I have mostly bought on eBay, but on occasion I do sell items. For example, I had to purchase several rare records on eBay to use for an upcoming record collector's guide. After the guide was published, I turned around and sold the records back on eBay, so now they're in the hands of appreciative collectors.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I purchased some homemade-recorded acetates from an estate seller. These acetates were recorded from a West Virginia radio station in the 1940's, and contain transcriptions of artists whose voices were thought to have been lost. I had the pleasure of donating several of these acetates to the Country Music Hall of Fame, and eventually wrote an article about the history of that West Virginia station (WWVA) for the Journal of Country Music.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay provides me with an opportunity to visit thousands of record stores worldwide. I can discover new sounds and old classics from around the world, from rare pink Lambert cylinders to durable Edison Diamond Discs; from rare Elvis Presley 78's to the first recordings by Nirvana. As a musicologist, audiophile and collector, eBay has helped me tremendously, and I don't think I could have ever found those recordings in other traditional locations - at least not without a lot of air travel.

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been selling on eBay since April 2000 and I mainly sell doll clothes.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
heard about eBay through an online chat room and a cyber friend.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
I visit several times a day-more often during my busiest season of selling.

What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
All of my doll clothes are unique as I try to only make one of each item.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I try to make sure I am available for answering questions concerning the items I have up for sale and offer the best customer service I possibly can.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Customer service and being polite is the best tips I can give out. I treat people, as I want to be treated.

Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
The higher my feedback goes the more comfortable people seem to be to deal with me.

Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
No, I don't participate mainly because of a lack of time.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, it has changed big time, because I have been able to expand my Doll Clothes business on line and the sales have been tremendous. I can basically count on a pretty steady income during the fall months to supplement my show income and provide for extras in my household. Actually, last fall while neither my husband or myself were working out of the house, my sales on eBay were the sole source of income for us.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Tutorial taught me how to use eBay more effectively.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
Yes, I have bought often on eBay. Mostly Western Equitation supplies that I cannot find locally at such awesome prices.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay gives me the option of being able to stay at home and reach a lot more people than I ever could just selling my wares at local craft shows.

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I've been a member of Ebay since June of 2003. I am an active seller on Ebay...

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I've heard about it so many places, I can't remember the first time

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Several times a day

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I sell my own cigar box purses...each one is unique and a one of a kind design. I take a lot of pride in the details of my work, and enjoy the feedback I get from customers. I also have sold Beatles memorabilia, and I have sold excellent copies of my invitation to JFK's inauguration. I also have sold my own knitting patterns.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My strategy is to know the market and know the business to more effectively sell. I make sure that I know my customers needs and wants, and make my items accessible with the right pricing. I also make each customer feel special with personal emails, or sometimes I add a little bonus item. Go the extra mile. I find that the right keywords, and the best picture can make all the difference.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Do your homework before starting! I can always tell if someones new because they make many of the same mistakes. Read all that Ebay had to offer and go to chat rooms or message boards to gain knowledge and information. Test the water first, before diving in. The first time you sell an item can be very gratifying and it never gets "old"....

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Feedback is very important. It can make the difference if you sell an item, or a competitor sells, even if they charge more. Guide people who are browsing to your feedback, ...it will make them confident that you are a pro...the more positive feedback, the more you sell.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Occasionally, but I don't have as much time as I'd like to do that...

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
If you're new to selling, you can gain a lot of help and knowledge through others...also, they can tell you what to look out for...the do's and don'ts

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I love working for myself at home. It has given me much needed added income. Also, it has given me an outlet to sell that I wouldn't have otherwise. Ebay is seen by millions of potential buyers everyday. What could be better!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Paypal...without it, I wouldn't be able to accept credit cards. That accounts for about 95% of my sales...

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I haven't bought anything yet, but I certainly would. There's so much available, and you can find anything!

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
No

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
I once worked as a spokesperson for a large automobile company and had a nice income.

A couple of years ago, I quit my job to stay home and care for my mother 24/7 so she wouldn't need to go into a nursing home. It was a difficult time for me emotionally and financially. Ebay gave me a chance to start my own business on my own terms out of my home. It was the one thing that I had control of and the flexibility to do as much or as little as time would permit. When she died in November of 2003, I was planning to go back to work once I could deal with my grief. But, almost immediately, I realized my dad was ill. It turned out he had terminal colon and liver cancer and I needed to be there for him. We were all very close and I needed to spend much time in the hospital. He passed away in April of this year, and I was shattered. I had lost my beloved parents within 5 months of each other and I was alone...with no job in sight yet. I had a mortgage and all the other bills on my shoulders. Ebay helped me gain income in my time of need, which is still the case. My business is building, and I hope to keep expanding with new product and customers. The economy in Michigan is not very good right now and jobs are at a premium in most fields. I appreciate those who have bought from me,...they have done more for me than they might have realized, even though my business is still small...

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
Since Jan '97. I started selling part time, then became a full time antique dealer, bought a 'bricks & mortar' shop, and supplement the shop with eBay sales.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I was searching for Pez for my daughter for Christmas, and found the site. At that time the membership was about 30 people, and every night we'd all chat in the 'cafe' (primarily about Pez) & wondered if anyone else would ever discover eBay.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
8 hours a day in the winter; constantly checking from my store during the summer.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
BOUGHT: I bought a lock of hair & an obituary of a little boy who died in 1863 during the civil war. I think it deserves a nice home after being treasured & kept for the past 140 years.

SOLD: I sold the college geology book used by William Peary the explorer, found by my best friend at a yard sale in Alaska for $5. The man who bought it was from Texas & I told him the $100 he paid was going to my friends son Zeke, who was saving to some day go to Florida to see a space shuttle launch. The buyer sent an extra $100 for Zeke, as he himself had always wanted to see a space launch. Well, we all ended up emailing, and about 3 months later the buyer invited Zeke & his parents to an all-expense-paid trip Florida to see a live launch! You never know where a sale will lead you....

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I work 8 hours a day on eBay in the winter. I keep my prices down so items are affordable, even though they are antique. I take a lot of really good pictures, use the 'bold' feature and always use 'gallery' . I also try to always always always be sure the customer is satisfied & happy. I don't overcharge on mailing and I try to be honest and fun to deal with. Humor goes a long way!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Be honest, be pleasant, be kind---you probably won't get rich, but you'll have fun. Be sure to follow-through and remember 'try to keep the customer satisfied'. Use Paypal---you'll lose bidders if you don't! If you're buying, check out the feedback BEFORE you bid!

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Well, the only negatives I have, I gave to myself in a hurry to explain things (back in the old days when this could happen!) I think my feedback lets future bidders know I'm a reputable person and they can buy with confidence.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I like to browse the antique boards or the specific collectible I'm researching, to see what buyers look for in a particular category & to learn more. I like to write my own templates, so I check the boards for HTML tips as well. I also watch the discussions about eBay enhancements to see which ones are working, what other sellers have to say about them, and which still have 'bugs'.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Jump in and try! It's the only way you'll learn how to do it and everyone has started at the beginning. Most people are thrilled to help 'newbies'. It's a great way to make friends and learn a lot!

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Oh, my goodness, has it ever! When I started on eBay it was just getting going and I had a full time insurance career. 7 years later, I've quit my career, bought an 18 room Victorian mansion (with my eBay sales as the down payment) that I use as my shop, have become a full-time antique dealer, wear jeans, not panty-hose, and I get to go to Europe twice a year on buying trips---life is fun now---I'm having a blast, I'm addicted to eBay and I couldn't dream of anything better!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The 'completed auctions' search, which is great for researching price levels and the best categories to list my item under. And Paypal!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Although my 'job' is selling, I buy about 80% of our household & office items on eBay--jeans, dog leashes, CDs, books, pens, cookware, sheets, hairbrushes, computers, jewelry, sheep halters---everything except the groceries!

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I'd have to say that first Pez I bought--- it was the start of my new life!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
It's given me the freedom to live my life the way I've always wanted to.

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
In June 2001 I registered and stayed up all night looking for flamingo items! I mostly buy items that my grandmother had in her attic in the 60s: ceramic flamingos, old children's books, 50s and 60s children's games, 60s Barbies, embroidered linens and chrome deco items.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
My aunt told me about the site. I had some items to sell and did not want to haul them to a flea market.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
At least once each day.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
A fabulous deco smoking stand this year. It is bronze and I plan to have it chrome plated.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I mainly buy items and use as many search words as possible to find. When I sell, I attempt to describe objects as thoroughly and provide clear pictures.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
To describe as accurately as possible and to provide clear pictures of the item. I appreciate it when a seller lets me know "A 1/16" chip is on the underside of the item, that doesn't show on the picture". i appreciate getting an item that doesn't have any surprise features that weren't listed in the description.

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I hope that sellers trust me to pay quickly when buying and to describe completely and package securely when selling.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I love to visit the animal and crafts boards. I have many rubber stamps and live animals!

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
The ebay site is so vast, it would be a helpful and welcoming way to learn the ropes. I'm still learning!

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I'm financially much poorer! Just kidding! I love to buy and most of my transactions have been happy ones. I also love to hear from buyers that are happy with what I have sold.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Discussion boards and help sites.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Most of my transactions involve buying. I am so thrilled to find an item I lost or gave away during my childhood! I've sold a few items and am pleased when the buyer is satisfied. My most recent auctions have been cat items and rubber stamps. My house is overflowing with these...

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I started collecting Miss Priss ceramics and was ecstatic to have found a 6-cup teapot!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
It's entertainment: I can stay home to buy and sell and I have made a lot of great friends!

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
A little over a year and a half. I use it to sell quality movies and DVDs and to find DVDs that I would like to add to my collection.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
My husband use to do the packaging and shipping for another Ebay seller and we decided we might as well do this ourselves.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I enter the Ebay site daily. Sometimes as many as 10 times a day.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I once sold the Disney movie "Flight of the Navigator". I was really surprised at how much it was in demand and what it sold for.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My husband helps me out a lot. He worked at a theater for 10 years and is also an avid movie buff, so he can pretty much tell me what is going to sell and what isn't.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
My suggestion to fellow Ebay sellers is to research your product, check on past selling prices, give an honest and accurate description of the item, and start your opening bids low. Most of all...DO NOT CHARGE A HANDLING FEE! These outrageous charges tend to make people shy away from your product.

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I believe that, once people see my Feedback rating and read some of the comments, they know that they can buy from me with confidence.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I haven't as of yet, but I am sure that, as time goes on, I will start to.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Ebay has given me the opportunity to have fun while making money, where I would of been doing nothing anyways. It is a great hobby to have and I would recommend it to anyone that is considering it.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The "Search for Completed Auctions" has served me best. This feature gives me an idea as to what I should start my auctions at and what to expect them to end at. This also gives me an idea of how to list the items I have to sell.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I have bought multiple items through Ebay, and will continue to buy this way. Where else can you get the things you want while controlling how much you are willing to pay for them?

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I don't think anything I have bought has dramatically change my live, but I do know that many of my purchases have made my family and I more happy.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
Ebay has saved me from the depression that most Housewives suffer do to the same old grind and boredom. Thank you Ebay for making my life more enjoyable while making a little extra spending cash.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Clothing, Shoes, & Accessories and Computers & Networking

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I started in 2001 when I was still in Grad school. I use it mainly for buying and selling computer accessories, because I need always need extra storage for my research data. Then I started using it a lot when I was pregnant with my daughter. First, I bought cloth diapers and cloth for her before she was born. Then I started selling Children's boutique cloth and accessories regularly in 2003.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
A fellow graduate student told me about eBay in 2000 (I think), we were chatting about where to get computer parts.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
When I am selling, I check my listing at least twice a day. When I am not selling, I still visit eBay as long as I have time to browse the internet.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I sold a lot of Burberry baby rompers on eBay, and I had costumer all over the world covering five continents! I met a lot of new friends through that line.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I love international buyers, so I always run an “around-the-world” shipping special. My shipping special covers the globe, and the bidding wars it created are often very impressive!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Be careful what you buy and watch your inventory! I always spend too much money of inventory. Being a mom who works part-time, has projects very often, and selling on eBay, it can be very overwhelmed from time to time. So only buys what you think you will have time to sell. Inventories are hard to keep up too. Keep up with inventory, knowing what you have and when to sell what is the main key of making money!

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I work very hard to maintain my perfect feedback, and it has proven to help me when people bid. I think my buyers trust me to ship items fast and follow through, because my feedbacks tell them so.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I visit the discussion boards a lot to find answers and advise. I visit the discussion boards about once a week, and more often if I have a hard-to-id piece especially needs help. I only tried chat rooms twice, because I don't have a lot of time to stay on line for a long period of time (unless I am working on listings and shipping!).

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
It is free and full of people with wisdom! I found great advise for dealing with uneasy situations, and also got answers for cloth pieces that I cannot id myself.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Oh, yes! If I am going to buy something I can't get from Target, I check on eBay first. It also let me discover the part of me that is not academia; I found more potential in myself.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
My eBay. It seems so obvious, but it is always very helpful to keep me informed of what I am selling, what I need to ship, and feedbacks to leave. It is also free, which is awesome!

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I guess I collect little girl's cloth for my daughter. I started after she was born because we didn't' know her sex until she was born. I especially love Gymboree, because you can mix and match and the quality is good. I also love brands like Jacadi, Catimini, and Tea Collections. I also buys a lot of her cloth from Taiwan, and would love to introduce some of the children's boutique from Taiwan, where I was born and raised.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I Buy probably about half of my daughter's wardrobe from eBay, and I am constantly looking for new cloth for her. This summer my mom and my sister bought her closet full of stuff, so I probably have to wait until Fall this year. I also buy some of my computer and IT accessories and parts from eBay. I am the tech geek of our household, so I shop at where I am most familiar. I bought parts to repair my husband's laptop, and extra memories to boost up our laptops. We have moth PC and MAC at home, so it is tricky to maintain!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means “opportunity” to me. I can find computer parts to fix my laptop, so I don't have to send it oversea for repair. I can shop when I was on bed rest. I can work but not losing any moment of my daughter's first two year in this world. A lot of opportunity for me to explore!

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Clothes, Shoes and Accessories

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
Since May 2003. I use it to sell clothes and to buy mainly clothes.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
Advertisements

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
At least once a day.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I am not sure about the most unique item, but I have met some nice people on eBay, especially a woman in Australia. You find out a lot about another country. I actually shipped some items we have here in the US that they do not have yet in her country. We have been emailing buddies since then!!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I sell a lot of my daughter's clothes and my clothes on eBay and I always set the starting prices very low. I am not trying to make a living off this; I'm trying to make enough to buy more clothes to replace the ones I sell!!! I also do not try to make a profit off shipping costs. I offer to refund the difference of the shipping price at the buyer's request if the shipping is lower than what I quoted on the auction listing. I like to do right by the buyers because I know that I always check out the shipping cost before bidding, which makes a difference for me whether or not I would want to bid on that auction.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
I would tell them to be honest when listing. I have bought items before and the items would come in with stains or something not mentioned and it makes it hard to make a decision about whether or not to make an issue, especially if I bought the items at such a good cheap price, but then again, I would like for the item to be well represented in the auction listing also.

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I think that as I sell and buy more on eBay, it helps the people buying from and selling to me realize that I'm trustworthy. I really enjoy getting on eBay everyday and checking out my feedback to make sure that everyone is happy with their purchase. I also would like to stress the importance of leaving feedback to those that do not realize that people base a lot of their opinions by someone's feedback rating.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
No I do not participate…..YET

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I have gotten rid of a lot of things in my closet and I have reinforced my cause of buying more clothes to replace those. My husband is always checking the mailbox and front door for packages just to see what I have bought on eBay. He also has helped out tremendously in the shipping department!!! He has mastered the kiosk at the post office!!!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Selling part of eBay. I have gotten some wonderful ideas on how to set up my auctions.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Yes I buy things on eBay as well as sell them.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I cannot say that I have purchased something that has dramatically changed my life. Maybe one day, a package will arrive that does though, I'll just have to keep buying!!!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means having something to look forward to when I get home, I love checking out how my auctions are doing or how the bidding is going on an item I'm watching. It is kind of like having an addiction but once I check out my eBay business, I'm satisfied, then I turn all of my attention to my family.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Sports cards and Memorabilia

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I have used eBay for buying and selling for nearly 6 and ½ years. Over the last 3 years, I primarily use eBay for selling.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I heard about eBay at one of the local Baseball card shows.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I would say I check the site anywhere from 5-10 times a day, and possibly more if I have auctions running.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I once sold a Phantom of the Opera program that I got from a play I saw in Seventh grade. After the show was over, one of the ushers was going to throw out a whole case of programs. The young entrepreneur in me asked if I could have the case and got my teacher's approval to bring it home on the bus with me. Nearly 10 years later, I still had about 20 of the programs in good shape, so I threw some on eBay and had some success with them.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I try to use current market conditions to dictate what I will sell and I always try to research what items similar to mine have sold for in the past. I also use my feedback record as a tool to help boost my sales and to ensure my bidders that they will be pleased with whatever they purchase from me.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
For buyers…..Be patient, and be firm. eBay is by far and away the biggest store you will ever see. If you are outbid, usually, there will be more chances in the (sometimes near) future. For Sellers……Be Resourceful and always have some knowledge of what you are selling. IF pictures cannot be provided, an accurate and detailed item description can usually do the job just fine. Also for sellers, high shipping/handling charges WILL ALWAYS shy bidders away.

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Well, I managed to score my one and only negative from a bidder who assumed I was leaving the country with his $7…..It didn't last me long, so I returned….LOL…I have nearly 800 feedbacks now and a solid 99.9% rating. I don't look at it as a blemish though, because bidders see the volume I sell in and appreciate the kind of remarks I receive.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I don't have much time for them, but I am looking forward to checking them from time to time from this point on.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Yes!! DEFINITELY!! I started using eBay as a source to buy items. Not doing much research really killed me. Once I started selling in volume, I managed to use my eBay funds to pay for my wedding (August 2004), and to put a down payment on my first house. EBay is truly amazing and I don't know what my life would be like without this asset!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Without a doubt, it's PayPal. It enables bidders to pay instantly with credit cards and receive their items fast.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I am a sports card collector that both buys and sells on eBay. When I started out on eBay in 1999, my collection was probably worth around $1000. Now, I have an extensive collection and a great reputation with hundreds of return and repeat customers!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it. Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I still use eBay to purchase items, as I said before, nowhere on earth will you find a flea market or superstore this big. I love to bargain shop and eBay has plenty of diamonds in the rough!

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I don't recall ever buying anything that changed my life dramatically. I did sell an item once that affected me though. I ran a 500 count lot of Pat Lafontaine cards about 2 years ago. The winner of the auction was holding a charity event at which Pat was to be signing autographs for sick kids. I felt honored to mail the refund (along with the lot of cards) just to have the chance to help out. Turns out, I got a nice letter about a month later, and 3 cards were sent back to me autographed. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had on eBay and not to mention, one of the most self-gratifying.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
To me, eBay would best be summarized as opportunity.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Jewelry

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I started selling small items of jewelry on ebay back in 2002. Slowly over the next two years I started adding more listings, adding more features. When my youngest son started school this past September I vowed to become a Power Seller within a year so that I didn't have to go out to work. I opened a featured store and kept adding inventory. I now have about 500 listings, mostly in Buy Now. In December I made Power Seller and my husband now agrees that it would be silly for me to go get a job!

I also shop eBay regularly. I get mostly toys and collectables for my kids. I also keep my eye on the other jewelry sellers to what the competition is. I have also found some great wholesale suppliers on eBay. I get all my shipping materials from eBay sellers.

How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I have no idea how I came across eBay! I've been a web surfer since 1992 and eventually just found eBay.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Every single day.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
The most unique item I got on eBay isn't really so unique – it was just really hard to find. At the age of 3 my son was an avid Batman & Robin fan, but Robin is his idol. He wanted a Robin costume. At the time, you couldn't find Robin anywhere – only Batman. But I found an incredible deal on a quality costume from an eBay seller in Australia . My son still wears them as pajamas (almost 3 years later).

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My strategy on selling is this : ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE and then ADVERTISE some more!. If shoppers don't know your there, they won't come! I list a lot of auctions weekly at very low prices. I use eBay key words. I have submitted my site to search engines and I send out a newsletter a few times a year telling my subscribers about new fashion trends in jewelry. Although I rely mostly on the Buy Now sales for actually making money, I think that the low price auctions bring in many browsers who become customers. I place one of my logo business cards in every package I ship, and every label and every letterhead have my logo and my URL on them. Since the ebay URL is a little long, I even have my own domain – Silver-Bees.com.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
A major tip on buying – always check the shipping/handling fees before you bid! There are some sellers that list their merchandise for really low prices but they jack up the shipping/handling fees to make up for it. Also, read all the seller's terms before you bid, and check their feedback.

On selling – start with small stuff that you may have around the house or that you got really cheap so you don't start off investing a lot of money. Build your reputation before you seriously invest. It took me 3 years to get to this level, and I would like to make it to Gold Power Seller within the next year.

Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
As a seller I have a 99.9% positive feedback rating. I got one negative comment once from someone that wasn't happy with the $5 sh/h fee! Although it was clearly stated in the auction, she felt ripped off. I have since lowered my fee to a flat rate of $2.95 and I combine all purchases. I had to find ways to reduce expenses to make up for it, so I found my mailers cheaper from an eBay seller. I joined an online postage company to get cheaper rates for delivery confirmation, and I self insure all my packages, so insurance is included in the sh/h fee. I use white padded shipping envelopes with white shipping labels and all jewelry goes in a gift box. I include an eBay invoice printed on letterhead and a business card. I run a professional business and I try to reflect that on all my materials. I think that the feedback ratings make me work harder to get the best feedback.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I've started investigating the chat rooms and discussion boards just recently. I didn't realize that there was one just for jewelry sellers, and I quickly started reading. I do plan to visit more often and to participate in the boards. It's a great networking tool. And the people are nice.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
New eBay members should especially visit the boards! It's probably the best way to learn how eBay works.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I fulfilled a life long dream to have my own home business. A successful home business.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Owning an eBay store! I get to list a lot more stuff than if I didn't have a store. The listing fees in stores are much less than that of auctions and the risk of selling something at too low a price is gone.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
Nope, no collections, unless you count the endless Super Hero toys that I buy!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I buy stuff on eBay all the time, although I'm more of a seller.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
A dramatic change to my life from one item, no. The whole site though has impacted my life allowing me to be a work at home mom.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay allows me to “do it all”. I have my own business and I'm a stay at home mom.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Americana, Vintage Items, Historical America, Antiques, Coins and Stamps, Golf Products and Memorabilia, Web Site and OnLine Auction Products.

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I started with the eBay in the Fall/Winter of 1997 under a User ID that I joined with at the car lot where I had been working at the time. I developed my own User ID at my home less than a Year later...and, that is when “golfloft” began: October 1, 1998! My first listed item on the eBay was a Barbie Doll that a friend (the car lot owner) wanted to list. From that point, I started selling some closet items that I had just laying around gathering dust. I also started bidding on items that interested me. It didn't take very long before I was completely addicted to the eBay!

I use the eBay site for a number of things...I started helping people with their eBay experience on the “Community's” “Images/HTML Board.” I developed many friends in that activity. I list things when I come upon them, generally 8 – 10 items per week. Just recently, I have settled down again in my home in Loves Park , IL after a number of international government contracts that I had undertaken. Because of that static condition, I plan to work with a number of antique and collectibles people to list their items and bring more and more people into the eBay community.

I still “hang out” on the “Images/HTML Board” and you can find me popping in there several times per day, to chat with my friends and to help people with their problems as they work with their eBay experience.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
A friend of mine had been a member of eBay for a couple months and he had even sold some items for me when I had the opportunity to peruse an abandoned 1960s Record/Music Store. That is when I decided, “This is for me!”

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Several times per day; sometimes, ALL DAY, when I am listing multiple items or helping people on the “Images/HTML Board.”

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I have sold many unique Historical items on the eBay; two come to mind immediately: The first one is a 1908 (the year my Mother and Father were born) Buffalo Bill Magazine; a program for his “Wild West Show;” and, a WELLS FARGO Horseshoe pouch made of heavy leather and branded “1899 – WELLS FARGO!” I love working with Historical Americana items...I love doing the research on the items.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My two best strategies are...DO EXTENSIVE RESEARCH on each and every item that you list! Always know as much or more about the items than the prospective bidders so you can answer any questions and so the viewers have the entire story about the item. The second thing that I always recommend is to use the eBay's enhancement tools and options...in other words, make the auction look professional and attractive so the prospective buyer will look deeper into the listing, rather than just look at the picture and move on to another item. BOLD is one of the best enhancements that eBay has to offer, as well as the other enhancements that make your auction look pleasant and professional. Your page views will be more numerous and your bids will go up accordingly!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
For sellers: Take the extra time and make the auction you list look super nice and professional as well as doing the research on the items you list. The internet has a wealth of knowledge concerning everything under the Sun. . . learn how to take advantage of these resources. Also, take the time to insure that your shipments are professional and totally secure.

For buyers: Do the same thing! Research-Research-Research! Find out what other items are being listed in that category and that type of item as well as using your “Maximum Bid” capability to its limit.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I am not sure about how it has helped my reputation, however, I have noticed that the big “Power Sellers” having a kazillion feedbacks keep going up and up every day that you look at their items. What I treasure the most is that when you have 100% Positive feedback, potential buyers are never afraid to up their bids and trust you that the item is as described and that the shipment will be quick and dependable.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I do! My favorite is the “Images/HTML Board” so I can visit with my good friends there and also be of assistance to the “newbies” eBay users and the veterans that are having trouble with their listings and other general eBay difficulties.

I also visit the other boards to see who is around and sometimes to do research (ask questions) on the specialty boards. I really like “The eBay Café;” where I made my very first posting ever.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Join in! There is a wealth of knowledge out there amongst eBay members...The Community is so very friendly and always anxious to help new members and seasoned veterans as well. Remember that eBay is a COMMUNITY! The social benefits of knowing your neighbors is so very important in having an enjoyable experience on the eBay.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
WOW! Take my word for it...Enlist all your friends to join us on the eBay! I have come full circle (in my old age) since I have been in the community on the eBay! I wish I could work for eBay...I could sit here all day and surf around the site, taking time out to work my eMail, etc. My life has indeed changed: THANK YOU eBay!!!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Three things: The Chat/Discussion Boards, because of the association with the Community; PayPal, because of the ease in paying for your items and receiving payment; and, “eBay Groups,” because of the wealth of knowledge gained through organizing instruction and discussion.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I collect only one thing: Historical items and information about the John F. Kennedy Assassination...It is my “away from work” expertise. I have a wealth of items and material concerning that. John F. Kennedy is my all-time HERO! I have some serious issues concerning that murder; because it changed life here in the United States SO much...so many things are different and obsolete because of that atrocity!

I also collect ALL Historical Americana...but, most of the time, I end of listing those type of items because I want other people to enjoy items associated with our great country and way of life!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I am about an 80% seller and a 20% buyer...I look forward to selling a few items so I can turn around and buy some new and different items. The process intrigues me more than the possession of these things. I am a “giver” and I want other people to share in the experiences that I have and to offer items for them, for that purpose, thrills me to no end!

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
When I first bought a professional digital camera and professional studio equipment; THAT changed my life and also changed the way I experienced the eBay. On the boards, I cannot stress enough how important it is to do your photography in a professional and attractive manner...It really is the biggest selling tool that you can use!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
In just one word, eBay means: COMMUNITY! There are some very nasty people out there in this World of ours. . Not on the eBay! At least, if the “nasties” try to come to eBay, the unique style of the eBay Community is not where they will continue in their evil ways. The eBay Community is the tenth largest “country” on this planet and not one government from the beginning of time has been able to assemble such a wealth of human natural resources that even compares with our Community!

I believe that the wealth of knowledge one can experience on the eBay compares with some of the great Universities in the World as well. Take time to sign up for one of eBay's “eBay University” classes and learn from others as well as the excellent instructors as to how magnificent the eBay experience can and will be for those who use the site to join the Community...and, DON'T FORGET TO JOIN US IN LAS VEGAS NEXT JUNE 13, 2006 for “eBay LIVE!”

Old girdles and a vintage Green Bay Packer figurine with a crack in its ass. An extra crack actually.

Have fun selling or it becomes hard work.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Sports Mem, Cards & Fan Shop

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I have been a member for two years as of yesterday. Ebay has changed my life, I sell on ebay as a primary source of income, I have since quit my job and now can spend more time with my children, and no day care!

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I had a friend who told me about it, and was a seller of baby clothes.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I am logged onto ebay at least 8 hours per day, checking on my listings, making new ones, and answering my messages from potential buyers.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I recently sold a number of original 1985 Roger Maris Funeral Programs.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I am primarily a seller, and using the tools that ebay sets my strategy and Square trade provide for me to track sales performance of my items, so that I can focus on the most consistently profitable categories.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Use the tools and information that ebay provides for you to make good buying and selling decisions. The tools like feedback (mine is 100% positive) and advanced search tools help a person make sure the are buying or selling to the right kind of community members, and to check previous items sold before to see if the price they are buying or selling on an item is in line with similar item sold before.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
What can I say, my feedback is 100% positive with over 3900 transactions. This rating tells buyers and sellers that I can be trusted in every aspect of the ebay experience. Sellers know they will get paid for an item, and buyers know they will receive an item on time, and as described. One of the other benefits is that in the event that a transaction goes bad, like lost payments, lost items, items not exactly as described, the people know that I have nothing but the best intentions and that I will do whatever is needed to fix the problem to protect my perfect reputation. Feedback is the most important tool a buyer and seller can use to make an informed buying or selling decision.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
The chat room, and discussion board I use to see what people are concerned about, and what new ebay member have questions about. This information is used by me to help add or remove information on my auction pages to help new and old customers understand the policies and procedures I use.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
I would tell any new ebay member that the only dumb question is the one never asked. Ebay community members are always willing to help other members with answers, advice, and general knowledge.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Ebay has changed me, and my family is so many ways. Before ebay, I was a full time manager at a grocery store, working 45-60 hours per week, with a schedule that had me working different times every day. Both my children were in day care, I was so tired when I returned home that my husband was taking care of the kids, and I spent far to little time with them. After starting slow on ebay, then growing every week, I could see the potential. I became a full time seller on ebay in June of 2004, and I have since quit my job, the kids are out of day care. I have the energy and the time to be with, and play with my children. My feet don't hurt, and my husband sees me smiling every day, oh yes, did I mention the MONEY !!

I make more money working at home on ebay, than I did at my old job. WOW!!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The two features that help greatly in my ebay experience is the Selling Manager Pro Program, and Turbo Lister. Selling Manager helps me track ever aspect of my selling and buying from the beginning through the entire auction process until it is completed. I know how many items I have for sale, when the auctions end, how much they are selling for, as well as tracking how many items are paid and ready to ship, how many items are unpaid. I would need three pages to describe all the benefits of Selling Manager Pro. Turbo lister allows me to list all my items at once, when I want to list them, and how many I want to list, as well as using templates and custom design features to make my auction pages jump out and grab my customers.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I am primarily sell on ebay, however I am a sports fan also. Collecting baseball cards is how I got started as a seller. I collected cards from an early age I first started selling the cards I did not want anymore, and now I buy whole collections, take consignments, and even resell items I buy from other sellers on ebay.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
No item that I have bought changed my life, but an item I sold changed someone else's. I sold an antique atlas book almost two years ago to a man who asked peculiar questions about the book, after the auction was over, and had received the book, he informed me that the book from 1914 was owned and used in school by his living 100 year old grand father, and he gave the book to him as a present for his 100th birthday. WOW!! He told me later by email that his grand father cried.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
Ebay is my life, I am a Power Seller, A Trading Assistant, a Square Trade Member, and I offer free ebay training for new sellers in my small town. I rely on ebay to help support my family, and ebay keeps reminding me every day how good people are, and that no matter how bad things get in the world, our world (ebay) is a good and safe place to live in.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Collectibles > Historical Memorabilia > Fraternal Groups > Fraternity and Sorority

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I started about four years ago. I developed a hobby of collecting college fraternity pins of all types. I realized the potential for selling and have sold a good number of items related to my hobby, as well as other interesting items, mostly collectable or historical.

I still “hang out” on the “Images/HTML Board” and you can find me popping in there several times per day, to chat with my friends and to help people with their problems as they work with their eBay experience.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I believe that friends had mentioned using it successfully to find rare items. There was a great deal of “buzz” in the media at the time about the growing power of this marketplace.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Several times a day. I have missed a few days when I was in the jungles of Mexico on a vacation, but I am usually able to find a way to get to a connection. I travel often in Mexico , and even in the smallest village, there is usually an internet cafe. Some of the connections are pitiful, but I have to check the listings!

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I have stumbled into some amazing stuff at estate sales, and I knew when I saw them that eBay would be the market they belonged in. I sold a first edition Mark Twain “Jumping Frogs” for two week's pay in my job as a teacher. I also sold antique racing goggles to a fellow who races antique race cars. With eBay, you know that if you listed it properly, you are getting the best price that is possible at that time. Plus, you know that the item is getting where it needs to be. As far as buying goes, I am the proud owner of a rock that came out of the ground looking just like the face of Jesus. Where else could one find such an amazing thing?

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
Of course, to get the best bid, you need to think like a person who is searching for this item. I try to use the keywords in the title and listing that would attract the hits of folks typing in keyword searches. Also, while I am not the greatest photographer in the world, I try to get images that will let the buyer know what they are looking at, and will fully reveal the condition. I try to be sure to reveal any flaws. Most buyers are more willing to bid if they believe they can trust you.

In terms of buying for my collection, I try to think like a seller who hasn't a clue as to what he has. How would he describe this item if he didn't know what he had? I put in keywords with misspellings or other odd descriptions that I have actually seen in listings that nobody else found. You can sure get some good deals that way!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
If you know what the item is and can properly describe it, start the auction at a low price. The market will find the “right” price, and running off bidders with a high opening isn't going to help things. Maybe you can attract some bidders with a low price who will help bid it up. Nothing attracts bidders like other bidders.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I think that most experienced eBayers look at the total number of feedbacks, the percentage positive, and the nature of the comments. I try not to worry about feedback. If you do things right, the feedback will follow. Occasionally you will get a nut who loves giving negs for no objective reason, but you can't let that keep you from using the feedback system for what it was designed for - sending signals to the community about the integrity of the member.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I check the Seller Central Discussion about once per week and I created a group for collectors like myself. We have about 40 members who can post pictures of their most recent acquisitions, ask questions, or rant. The groups are not widely promoted by eBay. I encourage all members to check them out.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
The discussion boards have kept me from making some mistakes in selling. That has meant fewer headaches and more money in my pocket (which eventually finds its way back to eBay purchases). Plus, the boards are tremendously entertaining! There are some real characters there. The private membership group for pin collectors has allowed me to pick the brains of fellow collectors, and has resulted in me finding some rare pins that I couldn't have found otherwise.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I am now addicted to this market, as opposed to TV. My wife now thinks that I am a nut. She claims that she crept into the computer room late at night while I was admiring an image of a fraternity pin on eBay, and I was saying “My little Preciousssss....” She has started calling me “Gollum.”

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
PayPal just makes things so much easier, in terms of buying or selling. I sometimes complain about the fees, but as a buyer, I am protected and I get the item quickly. As a seller, the bids are better with PayPal as on option.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I first looked at eBay to try and find a replacement badge for my college fraternity. I didn't find any of mine at the time, but I saw the badges of many other groups. I then developed a hobby of collecting college fraternity pins of all types. I now have about three hundred, including defunct groups and some pins of very early members, including badges from the 1800's.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I do both. But the proceeds from the selling are mainly used to improve my collection.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I finally found (and got a good deal) on a pin that was worn by a member of my fraternity soon after it started, almost 100 years old. This fellow was the 200th member to join, and now we have a quarter of a million. Is that cool or what?

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
I get immediate access to the Mother of all markets. It has enabled me to build a collection that would have taken decades of looking through shops or estate sales.

My eBay Summary is my home page. I check my auctions and store sales at every opportunity throughout the day and evening.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I sold a piece of toast in the shape of the State of Georgia for $19.50 just to prove to friends that I could sell it.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I mainly sell and I suppose my strategy would be researching what particular pet and animal products are popular sellers and design jewelry based on my findings.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
The main tip for both buyers and sellers is to make sure they check members feedback. Don't just look at the percentages but actually scroll through and read them to get a better understanding of who you are about to do business with.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I have 100% feedback right now and pride myself in going that extra mile in maintaining quality customer satisfaction. My web site has experienced considerable traffic from visitors of my eBay store which I'm sure is a direct result of my feedback rating.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I have launched my own group called "eBay's Rising Stars" and hope to nurture it into becoming a truly supportive group of serious sellers where we can come together and learn, share and vent concerning the everyday challenges and rewards of the eBay selling experience.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
It's always good to know people in the same area of interest as your own. You can learn much and even acquire some really wonderful friends from all over the country.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
My life has been enriched in many ways such as I find it a great thrill to have complete strangers buy my jewelry and send me personal emails about how much they enjoy wearing them. As a single Dad who raised 2 children, losing a son to cancer and having my daughter marry and move away, I suddenly lost that feeling of purpose but the daily tasks of designing, correspondence, packing and shipping my products has me greeting each day with excitement.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Opening my eBay Store. It's the wisest decision I have ever made. And it was so simple to set up and get going. I opened in Jan 2005 and am now selling my creations to people all over the country as well as in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand . What a hoot that is!

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
Because I raise and breed exotic goldfish, I collect anything with a goldfish motif. I bought a plate at a flea market back in 1983 and it just grew from that.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
Although I mostly sell, I have purchased computers, laptops, software, hardware and jewelry at auction. I have never been disappointed with any of my purchases.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I purchased a Smoke Away kit and quite smoking in 3 days. Never looked back and feel much better about myself having kicked that nasty habit.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay has provided me a new beginning at the age of 52. I feel proud and accomplished knowing that I have the talent to create a quality product that other people appreciate and purchase. Being an eBay store owner is a very rewarding experience for me.

I have been using eBay for about 4 years.

I use eBay to Sell...eBay has allowed me to generate a second income with my eBay store called "Eric's Unique Antiques!". In my store, I sell antiques and eclectics that I have accumulated over the years. I have been a powerseller for about 3 of 4 years with eBay.

I use eBay to Buy... As a collector, I also use eBay to add to my personal collection. I shop every week for that special something. eBay allows me to reach every part of the world.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Like most Americans, I first heard about eBay in the late 1990's. I remember hearing from friends how great this new auction site was. I also heard about eBay on the television and newspaper too. Boy, how I wish I invested in eBay stock back then.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Everyday: Morning, Noon, and Night! Even on my vacation I will at least browse eBay!

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I need to answer both of these questions.
The most unique item I purchased was a 19th century Deity statue from Shanghai, China. It looks like a green monster, however, it's frightening appearance, is actually to ward off evil. So far, it has worked! The most unique item I sold was a 1930's "Little Abner" box, no toy, just the cardboard box. I listed it at $9.99, hoping I would get $9.99. When bidding ended 7 days later... it sold for $250.00! I later found out that the cardboard box was more rare than the actual toy!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I mainly use eBay to sell. My strategy is to concentrate listings on the weekends, when eBay traffic is the highest.
I take good clear photos of all items I sell. I describe items fully and will research large ticket items prior to selling it. I am honest with condition of the item. I have sold over 3,000 items on eBay and have only 1 return because of my honesty.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
If you plan to purchase a large ticket item, ask the seller questions first (i.e. condition, more photos, year, dimensions)... always ask the questions during the auction and avoid the questions after it ends. If the seller has nothing to hide then the question will be answered promptly. Another tip, if the seller does not list shipping cost. Ask how much it is prior to your bid. Never assume that the delivery cost is actual postage.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I have nearly 3,000 positive eBay transactions and have reached the status of powerseller. I know that buyers look at feedback especially when purchasing high ticket items.
The powerseller symbol next to my ID allow the buyers to bid with full confidence!

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I visit the eBay powerseller discussion board at least once a week. I am also an active member in several eBay community groups: SF Bay Area Ebay Group (member) and Japanese Antiques, Woodblock Prints, & Art (leader).

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Tips on selling and buying. Also, meeting unique people in the eBay community.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
eBay has definitely changed my life. eBay has given me the opportunity to open a "world-wide" store called "Eric's Unique Antiques!". I now have regular customers from Europe, Asia, Canada, and every part of the U.S.A. The best part is that I can make money while in my pajamas or even on vacation! The income generated on eBay has increased my quality of life. I love it!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
PayPal. It allows buyer and seller to complete a transaction quickly and efficiently.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I collect and love Japanese Antique Woodblock Prints. I have a collection of over 100 prints from such well known artist as "Ando Hiroshige" and "Otagawa Kuniyoshi". My fascination with these interesting prints started during my visits to art museums in San Francisco and Honolulu. eBay has allowed me to collect these prints without breaking my wallet.

eBay also gives me the opportunity to sell a print from my collection to purchase another print from someone else.
Where else can you say that? I love it!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I mainly use eBay to sell items in my eBay store called "Eric's Unique Antiques!". I sell about 25-100 items a week. I mostly sell antiques and collectibles. Sometimes I will sell items for family members.

I am also a buyer on eBay. I purchase at least 1-5 items (from movie DVDs to antiques) per week.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
Many things I purchased on eBay has changed my life. One example, is when I purchased a Porsche badge for my car.
My local Porsche dealership wanted $30.00 for the badge.

Then I searched eBay and there it was ...viola! the exact same badge for $10.00! I saved $20.00 by a click of the mouse. Since then, I have purchased Porsche parts and accessories, at a fraction of the dealership prices.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay is part of my family. I use eBay to sell and to buy.

eBay allows me, as a collector, to locate unique items for my collection. The power of eBay is that it allows me to access the world. From Honolulu to San Francisco to Tokyo to Berlin, I deal with eBayers "world-wide". As a seller and owner of eBay store "Eric's Unique Antiques!", it allows me to sell, not only in my neighborhood, but globally too. I now have loyal customers from well over 30 countries and in all 50 U.S. states. eBay gives me the opportunity to sell from my personal collection, to sell my girlfriends hand-knitted beanies, to sell my mothers old dolls and knick-knacks, to sell my brothers collectibles.

All at a profit to them and fun to me! eBay is part of my family. I am proud to be a powerseller and happy to be part of this wonderful eBay community. All at a click of the mouse. I love eBay!

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Mostly Vintage, but also other misc. items.

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
For over 5 years. I use eBay as a seller and as an occasional buyer.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
An advertisement.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week!

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
Sold an antique Polaroid reading lamp. Now one matching the serial number and description is on display at the the New Museum of Modern Art, NY, NY. It brought 10 times what I was hoping to receive ...YIPPIE!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I mainly sell so I try and list items so they close over the weekend, and also at a reasonable time of day for buyers from all over the country.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Not to list items at a starting price that is too high. I have discovered that though an item is worth one amount, buyers like to bid up to that amount and will often exceed the hopeful bid. As a buyer, I would suggest not trying the "SNIPE" technique. If you like an item and want the item ...place your bid.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I could discuss this for hours! Feedback is truly a blessing. Once I wanted an item for Christmas, and I won the item but the seller only accepted money orders. There was not time for the seller to both receive and ship my item in time for the holidays, but due to my "great" feedback the seller felt comfortable shipping my item prior to receiving payment. Trust in both a buyer's and seller's feedback. It is a backbone for doing business on eBay.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Practice makes perfect. The more you participate, the better you become as a buyer and seller. You may also learn something that will benefit you in the future.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way? NO WORDS CAN SAY HOW EBAY HAS CHANGED MY LIFE.
It has enabled me to make ends meet, but still allow me the freedom in my life to do what I want with my leisure time.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The new, advanced listing page and My eBay are priceless!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I have bought on eBay in order to complete a set that wanted in turn to sell as a "complete set." I also shop eBay for items I wish to own; like clothes, shoes, personal items, etc. I always check eBay first.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
Prior to selling on eBay I bought my first digital camera on the site. That camera led to a dramatic life change. Over 5 years later and still selling. I may have a different camera, but still the same username.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
It brings the world to my doorstep! It has allowed me a way of life that would never have been possible otherwise. I LOVE EBAY!

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Many times a day.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
Press kits for movies & tv shows with cast photos & other memorabilia.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
Before I list any item, I research all the other listing that are similar to mine. I take note of the category, the wording in the title, the number of bids and other key factors. I also include every bit of description and info I have about the product.so the buyer can have as close to a real store experience as possible. Then I be sure and list my auction to end in the evening or on a weekend when are home shopping online.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Excel in customer service is the number one theme of successful eBay sellers. Unsatisfied customers can ruin your reputation. If a buyer has problem, be very friendly. Show them you value their business and you want to workout the problem (even if you don't think it's your fault!). Always keep promises. If you promise fast shipping, you must ship fast. If your shipping is late because of reasons out of your control, e-mail the buyer and refund their shipping costs. More often than not, they will be shocked and you will gain a loyal customer. My only other advice is to be willing to work HARD before real money comes in.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
The more feedback I get, the larger my business grows. New buyers gain confidence by seeing feedback from satisfied customers. I have worked very hard to provide the customer service that brings me my high feedback store.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
The chat rooms for sellers have helped me on several occasions when I needed advice for problem or unusual situations.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
On these boards new members can find valuable insight that can help them totally avoid common rookie mistakes. The Community also gives you a chance to succeed on other tried and true techniques by learning from other sellers experiences.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Several years ago I was diagnosed with painful chronic illness. Very soon it was clear I could not work and maintain a normal life while battling my physical limitations. I needed an income and some work that I could do from home. As a hobby I started hunting for discounted beauty products to sell on eBay. Gradually my inventory expanded and sales grew a little each week. And from that, The Pampering Store was born.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
eBay Stores is what I use the most. This feature allows me to showcase my items to millions of eBayers 24 hours a day. Using my eBay store, buyers can search for what they want, check out and pay for the item all with just a few clicks, which is extremely beneficial for eBayers who would rather ‘Buy it Now' instead of waiting for an auction to close.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I don't buy on eBay nearly as much as I sell. But I do love to shop on eBay, especially when I'm looking for an uncommon item as a gift. I have also purchased office supplies on eBay, computer equipment, digital camera, etc.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
For me, eBay means that I can build my job within my health limitations and work in the comfort of my own home. It also gives me a satisfaction that would be hard to find anywhere else. In spite of my physical illness, I have been so happy knowing I am producing a business and being able to work. eBay means work, income, opportunity...eBay means freedom.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Home & Garden

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I've been using eBay since February of 2002. Initially, I was only a buyer on eBay and purchased all kinds of items…jewelry, cosmetics, electronics, and computer items. In September of 2003, I bought a retail store that sells wind related items…garden flags, decorative banners, lawn ornaments and the like. A true niche market! I began thinking about ways to expand the business and decided to try selling on eBay. Ebay has a HUGE amount of traffic everyday…more than I could ever expect to get into my brick and mortar store on any given day! I think I read somewhere that 70 million people visit eBay each day…if my little eBay store even sees 1% of that 70 million…that's 70,000 people that would see my items! There is NO WAY I could ever duplicate that kind of traffic in my brick and mortar store.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Well, that was a long time ago and to be honest, I can't remember how I first heard about eBay. It was most likely through a friend or co-worker.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I visit the eBay site multiple times each day. Most often I am listing items for sale or checking on my current items. At least once or twice a day, I have to take a browse around my favorite categories to see if there are any bargains to be had! I also check out the forums a couple of times a week to chat with fellow eBay sellers and often times, I learn something new.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I haven't purchased anything I would call unusual on eBay. The most unique item I have sold on eBay was a “Cycling Santa” spinning lawn ornament. The lawn ornament had Santa Claus on a bicycle with his toy bag on his shoulder. The wheels of the bicycle spin in the wind.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I employ a couple of strategies in selling my items on eBay. The first is to have an eBay store. While I sell a lot of my items on auction, having the eBay store allows my customers to see the rest of my offerings in one location and to be able to browse through the items by category rather than just looking at a list of items. I have almost 400 items (and counting!) listed on eBay and it's much easier for my customers to find what they're interested in by category! Many times, the customer starts off at my auction and ends up purchasing additional items in my store.

Another strategy that I use to sell on eBay is to make sure I have auctions going every day of the week. People use eBay differently. Some folks may just browse the “ending now” listings and others may search through every page of a particular category. By having auctions ending every day of the week, I feel like I have a better chance of reaching all types of eBay buyers.

I use a combination of sales tactics…I have an eBay store, I use 3, 5 and 7 day auctions and sometimes incorporate Buy It Now with the auctions. You never know what ‘s going to grab that potential buyer. I try to keep an open mind and try a variety of listing options!

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
The most important tip I can give is to write the most detailed description of your item possible. It's a little scary for some people to make purchases online because they can't touch the item or see it in person. Your description becomes their eyes, hands, ears, etc. The more detailed you are, the more comfort you give to your potential buyers.

Take excellent pictures. Again, your potential buyers can't see the item in person…they only have your picture to go by. If the picture is blurry or too dark, potential buyers will not be comfortable purchasing the item even if the description leads them to believe it's what they need.

Provide excellent customer service. Buying online in any forum can be an impersonal experience because you never see the real live person behind the scene. Make every communication with your eBay buyer personal. Answer questions in a timely fashion and thank them for their interest in your item. Send an email when you ship their item and thank them for their purchase. Use the customer's name in communication instead of just sending a form letter. In my opinion, the more you can show your customer that they're dealing with a real person, the more pleasant the buying process will be for them.

Try using a variety of eBay services. For my auctions, I use 3, 5, and 7 day auctions, I use Buy It Now on some of them and fixed price on others. In my opinion, you have a better chance of reaching the largest amount of people by using a variety of services. Some folks will only look at Buy It Now auctions!

Make sure to offer a variety of payment options for your customers. PayPal is used most often by my customers, but I also take money orders and cashier's checks for those buyers that don't feel comfortable with online payments.

Finally, if at first you don't succeed….try something a little different. Try new strategies for your items…keep the ones that work well and discard the ones you haven't found useful. Continue revising your strategies until you find what works best for you! Once you find what works, make sure to re-look at them often and be willing to revise those strategies to try additional options. Don't' become stagnant or satisfied!

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
The feedback system on eBay has helped my reputation as both a buyer and a seller. As a seller, the feedback I receive from buyers gives me more credibility for the next potential buyer to put trust in me. I am a seller that ships the same or very next day after a buyer makes a purchase. Because of that, the large majority of my feedback from my buyers state that I ship extremely fast. Word of mouth is the BEST advertising possible and eBay's feedback system provides that valuable word of mouth. It's one satisfied customer telling any potential buyers that all is good with the seller…you can't buy that type of promotion!

Potential buyers that check my feedback prior to purchasing most likely feel very confident that they will receive their item very quickly. As a buyer, the system shows sellers that I am trust worthy and will pay them quickly for their item.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I visit the PowerSeller board a few times a week. There are so many knowledgeable people that are willing to help with any questions regarding eBay on this board…it truly is a community! I've learned a great deal from the PowerSeller board. Many times, I go to learn and other times I offer information or advice.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
The sheer sense of community is the best reason to join the discussion boards. The people are friendly and so willing to help with any problem big or small. Just about everyone I've met on the discussion boards…no matter how big of a PowerSeller they are now, remembers what it was like when they were just starting out on eBay. You can get help with your questions, inspiration and creative ideas any day of the week by just logging in and asking for help!

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Life has definitely changed for the positive for me! I can find just about anything I need to purchase at a fraction of the cost it would cost in local stores which saves me a great deal of money! My retail business has seen an increase of about 33% JUST from selling my same items on eBay! What other method of marketing would produce that kind of result with such small costs? Nothing that I can think of!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
My eBay store has, by far, been the most helpful in growing my business. By being able to showcase all of my items in one location, I have easily tripled the business that I was doing on eBay with just auctions. The stores are feature packed making them easy for the seller to use and super easy for the buyer to browse in! The return on investment for my eBay store is incredible!

I have to list another one though. The completed listings feature is SO helpful! It helps me as a buyer to see what I can expect to pay for a particular item so I know where to stop bidding (so I don't over pay!) and it helps me as a seller to know what I can expect my own items to sell for. It's very useful when determining starting prices for auctions.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I buy things on eBay all of the time! Rarely have I been looking for a specific item that I couldn't find on eBay.  I am a “frugal” shopper (sounds so much better than cheap!) and you just can't beat the bargains you find on eBay. Sometimes I don't win the auctions I'm bidding on, but I keep looking to find the next best deal.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I can't say that I've purchased anything that's dramatic ally changed my life, but I've never been disappointed with my purchases!

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
To me, eBay has been a way to expand my current retail business and to gain exposure to people I would norm ally never be able to reach. I am now an international business woman thanks to eBay! Ebay means more income for me and my family, it means a larger marketplace for my goods and most importantly, a community where I feel welcome and valued.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Toys & Hobbies

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I've been a member since October 20th 2000. I use it mainly to sell items and to purchase items for my collections.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I first heard about eBay from a magazine article and since I'm in the software and web development profession, it's always been the talk of the industry. “Let's do it as fast and reliable as eBay does it.”

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I visit many, many times a day. I do research on product prices and what's hot and selling. I also search for items I'm interested in buying for either my collection or as gifts.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I would have to say that the most unique thing I've sold was a New Martinsville Candy Dish. I listed it only because I thought it was really cool looking and it turned out to be an antique and fetched a pretty good price. Another eBay member told me what it was.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I would say that my selling strategy is mostly geared towards what I like. If I like it and think I would buy it, I will try and sell it. It also helps knowing how to get around in eBay and research items to see if there is an interest. As with a strategy like this, there are those things I like, that nobody else does. But for the majority of items, I would say I have good taste.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
The biggest thing I've learned as a seller is that you should buy things also, so you know what a buyer goes through. When I buy things, I look for the lowest possible shipping rate. So I've learned that I should only charge exact shipping for an item I'm selling.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I believe that my Feedback Rating has a direct relationship to my sales. When I was under 100, my sales were slow. As my Feedback Rating has increased, so have my sales. It also helps to have excellent customer service and to ship fast.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I have not had the time to participate in the chat rooms, but I do go to the discussion boards every now and again to research a question or issue I need to know about.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
There is a wealth of knowledge just waiting for people to tap into. There are many people who have had similar situations arise whether they are buying or selling and if you just take the time to go to the discussion or chat rooms, you can find answers to your questions.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Well, if you ask my wife, she'd probably tell you that she thought I was on the computer a lot BEFORE really getting into eBay. Now she considers herself and eBay widow. Actually, I think it has definitely changed the way I buy things. Before I wasn't very concerned with ROI (Return on Investment), but now I don't buy anything retail if I can help it.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
I would have to say the Turbo Lister is the best feature I've used on eBay. It is so much faster now to put my listings together.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I've actually collected things for a very long time before using eBay. Since I've become really active on eBay, I've been collecting Harry Potter Lego Sets. My kids are really into Harry Potter, so my wife and I read the books and are hooked now too. The Lego sets are made so well, and by the looks of the prices on eBay now, I think they will really be worth a lot in the future.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I buy Harry Potter Lego Sets, gifts for family and friends and things for around the house. I don't look to buy things on eBay to resell though. Somehow, that doesn't seem right to me.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I don't think I've bought anything that has changed my life, although, I can see how people become hooked on buying and selling. There is something about auctions and the anticipation of possibly winning a bid, or selling an item that happens to be popular and people get into a bidding war and it goes up and up. It's very exciting at times.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
I am beginning to realize that eBay for me means freedom. A freedom to buy or sell things from the comfort of your home. It's a way to make extra money and interact with other people that you wouldn't normally interact with. For example, my family and I have put up a map of the world and we put pins on all the countries we sell items to. It's really a neat place to do business. It brings people together.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
I sell in the Art Category under Self Representing Artists and sometimes under Paintings>Contemporary.

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I've being a member since February 2001, and I mainly use it to offer my original paintings, prints and glass artwork to collectors all over the world directly from my studio.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I saw and ad on tv when we first arrived to the US and checked to see what I could find and how would it help me.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Daily, as I list everyday and visit my groups. Besides I check all my reports to make sure everything is under control.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
When I started eBay, I started like almost everyone selling things that were lying around the house, and one of the most unique things I sold on eBay was an LP record from the Puerto Rican group Menudo which was popular when I was a teenager and living in Venezuela, South America. The record sold for $99, and I remember how in shock my husband was when I sold the record because he told me to just get rid of them as no one would like to buy those old Venezuelan LP's. How wrong he was!

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
As a strategy I list everyday, or try to list everyday at least one painting. I found that keeping a constant flow of visits to my auctions and store items increases tremendously the potential for good sales.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
To sellers, I'll tell them to be honest when selling their products or goods. To use eBay in a positive manner for the benefit of everyone, sellers and buyers, to take care of their feedback as is one of the most important tools they would have in the online business world. To buyers, to check eBay first before looking somewhere else, because definitely they would find wonderful and honest sellers on eBay and incredible artists that would offer the same products they are looking for and they would go the extra mile to make you happy.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I have to say that my feedback is one of the things I'm most proud of. I'm an honest seller and artist and that shows on the repeat customers on my feedback as well on the 100% rating I have. I guess that's one of the most important qualities and definitely a plus when I put my works for sale everyday. New customers look my feedback and know they can trust me because what I sell is high quality artwork and repeat customers are the proof of it.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Yes! Definitely, is one of the places I visit the most on eBay. I mainly visit art groups. I've created a group of high quality artists all wonderful people and very talented artists.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
If they are looking for answers to their questions those are the places they should look for. There is tons of valuable information from simple tips to complex advice that they wouldn't find anywhere else.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Oh! Definitely! Before eBay my only place to sell my work was galleries and I didn't know where my work was going to nor I had the chance to even send a thank you note to whoever was purchasing my art. Now I sell directly to collectors all over the world and I get emails from them all the time, not only telling me how they like my work so much or how it has brought that special touch they needed to complete or complement their décor but also they give me advice for the way I display my listings and what they like to see in my newsletter which I appreciate so much! The pleasure of dealing directly with my wonderful collectors and hearing from them has being the best thing that has happened to me.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Wow! This is a hard one because eBay has plenty of great features each one with its own characteristics, but if I was to pick just one I would have to say the Selling Manager Pro has being one of the services that have made a huge difference in the way I manage and sell my work. This is a great service and couldn't see my life on eBay without it.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I buy Indian pottery mainly, I'm fascinating by it. I found one set a few years ago and I'm still looking for matching pieces which I hope to find soon.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I admit I mainly use eBay to sell my artwork, the pleasure to connect directly with my collectors is something I wouldn't change for anything, but I have bought a few things on eBay too, and I try to look on eBay first to see if I can find what I'm looking for.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I haven't had the pleasure, but I know it will happen soon.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
EBay means to me the freedom to literally offer my work to the world without the barrier and limit line of a brick and mortar gallery, to connect directly with my collectors and receive their feedback, praises and wonderful advice.

How did you select your eBay User ID?
stephintexas -- I selected this ID because it reflects my name and location. As a native Texan, I pride myself and base by business ethics on traditional southern hospitality, integrity and old fashioned customer service.

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Clothing and Accessories, Shoes and Books

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
Began selling on eBay March 20, 1999 to clear out items from my antique booth that were collecting dust from slow sales. I closed down the booth after one month on eBay and have been hooked ever since. Six months later, in September 1999, I began teaching private eBay classes.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
The first time I heard about eBay was in 1997, from a neighbor who purchased a desk from me to use in his eBay business.  He had quit his day job and was doing eBay full-time, so this is what got my entrepreneurial juices flowing in the very beginning.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
All day, every day, except when I on vacation! I log on to eBay EVERY morning around 5:30am, while drinking coffee and don't log off until it's time for bed, around 10:30pm.  I take it easy on Sunday and only spend about 12 hours on the website.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
The most unusual item that I have ever sold was a rusty, antique farm plow, purchased for $5.00 at a yard sale and sold for over $75.00 to a farmer from east Texas, who was actually going to use it.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell?
Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy? I use eBay to buy and sell, but I sell a lot more than I buy. My strategy begins with extensive market research to determine best category, starting price and best keywords. Secondly, I describe every detail of my item and provide an accurate, honest and complete description of the item, as though there were no photograph. Thirdly, I include several clear, close-up photos.  I never overcharge on shipping and lastly, I ALWAYS answer questions promptly and thank the potential bidder for their interest in my auction and wish them luck should they decide to bid on my auction.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Thorough research; know the marketplace and your target audience; create titles that grab the reader's attention by using power keywords; keep starting bids low to encourage early bidding and keep your listing fees to a minimum. Take lots of good, clear photographs! People can't reach out and touch the items they're bidding on, so by providing close-up photographs, they almost feel like they can.

  • Template - Create a unique and professional template, to streamline the auction listing process. No need to reinvent the wheel every time.
  • Timing - Varied starting times to accommodate international eBay customers and always use 10-day auctions on more expensive items. Create a sense of urgency if it's a 3-day auction, be sure to mention that in the body of your auction, or even in your title!
  • Pricing - Low starting bids to encourage early bidding and keep eBay selling fees at a minimum and increase my bottom line
  • Photos - Clear, crisp, close-up photos. Edit and crop photos to make them look professional. Remember the saying, "A picture's worth a 1000 words?" Well it's never been more true, especially with your eBay auctions.
  • Keywords - Use power keywords and don't over use words like "Rare" and "Hard-to-Find" when creating your auction title. Use subtitles on more valuable, or rarer items to help draw attention to your auction
  • Auction Title - Use all 55 spaces when possible and correct capitalization. Use Spell check. Do NOT overuse capitalization, but save it to emphasize the most important words.
  • Perceived Value - Make certain that you include the retail price of an item if it is fairly new, so your bidder will know how good of a bargain they are really getting. This will help drive up the selling price.
  • Details - Full disclosure! Honest is really the best policy. Nobody likes surprises, unless it's a pleasant surprise, so always give the customer more than they would expect. Include all details of your item, including brand-name, age, condition, dimensions and recommended uses.
  • Customer Service - Old fashioned customer service works extremely well.  The Golden Rule....don't forget what most of us learned as children, "Treat others like you would want to be treated." Always start by thanking them and using their first name! Most online transactions are so impersonal, so I go out of my way to let my customers know how important they are and let them know how much I appreciate their eBay business. Lastly, I always include a handwritten thank you note.
  • Shipping - Pack, pack and pack some more! Make absolutely certain that the item arrives intact and as quickly as possible. I try to ship all items within 12 hours of receipt of payment, to insure prompt delivery and use USPS, exclusively, as they provide all of my shipping supplies for free, including the Delivery Confirmation, which can be tracked online. Always make sure to include the shipping cost for your customer, as it helps cut down on questions and makes it more convenient for potential buyers.
  • Communication - Include your signature block in ALL correspondence and make sure that your customer has your direct email address in the event they need to contact you directly.
  • eBay Store - Always include two, or more direct links to your eBay store and make sure that you offer some type of incentive for your customer to visit your eBay store
  • About Me Page - Keep it up to date and fresh. Give them a reason to visit often and include a link to visit my About Me page in every auction. Why would anyone want to visit a page that remains stagnant?
  • Service Policy - State your customer service policy at the bottom of each auction, so the customer will know before they bid.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Feedback is the lifeblood of every eBay seller and no matter how many feedbacks I have, it is still extremely important to me and the success of my eBay business. Potential buyers can see what type of person they're dealing with before ever bidding on your auction. As a buyer, I always check the seller's feedbacks posted by other bidders, but just as important, I check to see what they have posted for their customers.  Most of the time you will find kind, considerate comments; however, occasionally, you will find a seller who is quick on the trigger to post negative, nasty comments and I steer clear of these type of sellers like the plague.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I am a huge fan of the eBay Community and love to peruse the discussion boards to find out the latest buzz, pick up useful tips and tricks, meet other eBayers and Share My Wares.  My favorite boards are About Me, Photos & HTML and Building an eBay Business.  I am moderator of two eBay Groups, Dallas Online Auction Users Group and Dallas eBaybes & eMales and a member of 38 other groups. In addition, I founded the Dallas Chapter of e-Baybes & e-Males, which is an eBay seller group with over 60 members and meets once a month at a local Dallas restaurant.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Many eBay sellers are a "one-man/woman show,"  so the eBay Community is a perfect way to meet fellow eBayers and to network and learn from each other.  Any time I need answers, the Community Boards are the first place I look. I encourage all of my eBay students to visit the discussion boards and to join at least one eBay group to meet other eBayers and to establish a peer group.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I earn  a living as a full-time eBay seller, Trading Assistant, Mentor, Education Specialist trained by eBay and professional eBay consultant. I live, eat and breath eBay every day!

One of the things I am most proud of is being the first college-level eBay instructor in the nation, as I began teaching eBay classes at the college level in 2002, before the eBay Education Specialist program even came into existence.  It was only a dream until I was laid off from my 9-5 job in 2002. I seized that golden opportunity to make my dream become reality and as they say, "...make lemons out of lemonade." I began working on my eBay class syllabus and got to work contacting the local community colleges and marketing my classes. My classes have been featured on local newscasts and in various newspapers and there is never a shortage of students, as ebay continues to grow in record numbers, so does the enrollment in my eBay classes.

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
eBay Live Help has been a lifesaver! It just doesn't get much better than that. Instant answers and solutions to your eBay questions and/or dilemmas from a knowledgeable and friendly eBay staffers. My other favorite has always been eBay Radio with Griff.  I listen every Tuesday and replay the archives while I'm packing and shipping. It is one of the best ways I know of to stay on top of the latest and greatest eBay trends and programs.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
As a die-hard eBayer, I have to admit that the only thing I collect is eBay stuff. You might accuse me of being "eat up with it" and you'd be right! I purchase any and all types of eBay memorabilia and my current collection consists of the original eBay magazine, t-shirts, watches, pins, mouse pads and much, much more.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay?
Please tell us about it: My main purpose of using eBay is to sell; however, I also purchase items to resell on eBay. I shop daily and find that the wee hours of the morning allows me to find items at great prices and I also look for items that have been mischaracterized, to find great bargains.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
My very first eBay purchase was a digital camera and I got it at a rock-bottom price. Without the camera, I could have never launched my eBay career, so it definitely changed my life in a great way.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay is my life and has made all of my entrepreneurial dreams come true.  I like to think of myself as an eBay Ambassador, as I am constantly sharing my eBay experiences and promoting the site as I am a firm believer that eBay is the Way of the Future! I also believe that all retail businesses should have an eBay presence, especially the smaller businesses in order to compete in today's marketplace.

eBay means that I no longer have to fight the 8 to 5 rush hour traffic, no more dressing in stuffy, corporate attire, work around someone else's schedule and and never worrying about getting laid off again! There is truly no limit to your earning potential when you are an eBay seller.

My new dream is to write my own eBay book and to have my own eBay auction radio talk show on a local station....kind of like a Dr. Laura of eBay.  I have tried many ventures over the last twenty years and have tired of all after a while, but I must tell you that there is NOTHING that I don't like about eBay and NOTHING that I am tired of.  It's always new and refreshing and eBay does a fantastic job of keeping the site on the cutting edge.

snpcollectors Star

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Salt and pepper shakers, but I am also selling off our inventory from our former space in an antique store. We have a little bit of everything.

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
Since 1999. I buy salt and pepper shakers to add to my personal collection, and sell our collectibles inventory.

How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Through television news, and newspaper articles. I read up on the history, and decided to log on and see what it was all about.

How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I log on several times a day, first thing in the morning, when items are about to go off, and the las! t thing at night. Sometimes, I just log on to browse.

What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I recently sold a Wizard of Oz Chess Set that consisted of a cookie jar and 16 sets of salt and pepper shakers.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or, if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
When buying items, I look for novice dealers who sell their items and who don't know their value. Buy cheap – sell high.

What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Get as much information as possible about the items they are planning to sell; and don't put too high a starting price on their items.

Tell us how your Feedback Rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I only have one negative feedback point. The buyer didn't contact me for two weeks, and did not answer my emails, so I left him a negative. He left me a negative in retaliation. Repeat sellers will ship items to me immediately upon receiving my personal checks because they know that I'm honest.  I do everything possible, including FULL refunds, if a buyer isn't satisfied with a purchase that have made from me.

Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I have never been in a chat room, and have only once gone to the discussion boards. That was for suggestions on dealing with the buyer who left me the negative feedback.

If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
I don't really participate in any of these, but to a newbie, I would suggest them as possible ways to get knowledge from more experienced sellers.

Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I retired from my job at a young age because of medical conditions. Now, there aren't enough hours in the day to do everything that I need to get done. I need an assistant!

What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The new eBay Stores, and the free layouts and graphics which are available to fancy them up. I'm not at all familiar with marketing, so to have those aids available to sellers is quite helpful. In addition to listing items for just pennies, I can have a full inventory when buyers visit my store.

Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
In 1993 I saw a set of cactus salt and pepper shakers that were wearing red bandanas. I bought them on a whim, and that's what got me started. I also inherited some sets from my aunt. Now 12 years and 2,000 plus sets of shakers later, I'm still excited about finding a set I've been searching for. I have over 1,500 sets in my personal collection, and more than 500 sets in out inventory – both vintage and new.

If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I sell our inventory items, my duplicate sets of shakers, including the ones I don't want anymore. I also buy shakers to add to my personal collection.

Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I have “lucked up” on items that I have wanted for a long time, but I can't really say there has been any “dramatic” change in my life. Part of my personal philosophy has been: She who dies with the most salt and pepper shakers wins. Among my collector friends, I'm still somewhere at the bottom, quantity-wise.

Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay is a good venue for people to buy and sell items, providing they are willing to pay the price. There are some policy changes I would like to see made regarding non-paying buyers, and feedback, but overall, as long as everyone plays by the rules, it is a win-win situation.
