How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I have used eBay since 1999.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I first learned about eBay from a news show that featured in 1999.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
With both work and home usage, I am on an average of 10-12 hours per day. I surf usually once or twice an hour.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
The most unique Item I plan on listing is the opportunity for a buyer to be listed in my will as an heir to my comic book memorabilia collection. The most unique item I have bought is a super rare 1972 Stan Lee "Carnegie Hall" appearance poster in near mint condition.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I have only one strategy in buying, search multiple keywords for a particular item. Some people do not list an item in the correct category and as a consequence do not reach all the potential buyers possible. I get the best deals this way when buying. When selling, I research the best possible category to list in or use a "second category" listing option.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Advertising is everything, so list in the proper category. Use as many terms as possible in your title to give the most keywords possible for potential buyers who are searching the site. When buying, use as many keywords that pertain to the item you are seeking. Do not limit your search to a single category in the browse section.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Having 100% positive feedback in both selling and buying categories shows my reliability and assures both a seller and bidder.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Not yet.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
I recommended all users, novice or pro, to use the help and discussion boards. They are informative and usually provide a quick response to an inquiry.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, eBay has changed my life in the sense that it has given me a medium to find practically everything I am seeking without the hassle of traffic jams or retail opening/closing times. I can shop from my own home and have the product delivered to my door.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The "Second Category" listing has been a great help, as some buyers search only one category and may not come across your item. The "Buy It Now" has been great for purchasing something right away without the 7-10 day wait and risk of being outbid.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I buy and sell on eBay and have great experiences with both. I often buy collections for only one item in it. I re-list the unwanted parts and usually end up making a profit.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
The one thing I had searched for since 1986 was a rare poster advertising a 1972 appearance by Marvel Comic's Stan Lee at Carnegie Hall. The poster was printed for local distribution only, a very small amount produced, and since they were used for advertising the event they were mainly found in low-grade conditions. I just recently found one that was unused and in near mint condition. It was not listed in the category that would have given it the most exposure to collectors, and I purchased it one hour after it was listed using the "buy it now" option. I paid a small fraction of its value and probably would never have come across one outside of eBay.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
To me, eBay is a way of life. It is the most affordable medium for sellers to advertise their goods to a world market, as well as for buyers to find that one particular item they have been searching for but may never have found due to their location. eBay is also becoming part of the vernacular and establishing itself in the culture. Now, whenever a person finds a collectible that's worth a lot of money, they will look at another person and utter one word, "eBay!" |

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been using eBay to sell and buy since Dec 15,1996 for selling and buying.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
My husband bought me a computer and when I wasn't using it [he] told me he was going to get rid of it if I didn't start using it, and at the time I had been going to some auctions, so I just typed in the word auction in the search line and up popped eBay and its been fun ever since.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
Many times everyday.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
[I] sold a real pickled Siamese pig in a jar, bought it at an auction for $16.00 and sold for over $400.00. [I] don't remember the exact amount.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
When selling I research things that have sold of which I might have and see how they were presented and how many people looked at them. The same with buying things I research what has sold and what it sold for to help me know what I might have to bid to get an item.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Be as accurate in your descriptions as possible without getting carried away with the length, state condition as it really is, pictures are important but if they take forever to load people get tired of waiting and go to something else at least I do. No music or fancy cursors that run around the screen they are very distracting. Make sure your terms for payments, shipping and things like that are clear to the bidders.
Again when wanting to buy something use the great "completed items" feature and see if an item like or similar to what you are looking for sold in the last 30 days and what it went for. Don't ask people to end auctions early to give you the chance to buy things from them its not only against rules, but very rude. Who knows what that last minute bidder might pay for something they really want.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
I think feedback has improved my sales especially since I have gone over 5000 and am not a power seller, I know people check my feedback, because lots of times people will say since you have such a good feedback we wont hold your check for clearing and things like that.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Not much, unless I have a question about some item that a discussion board may help with. I would rather be listing than chatting.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
A new member may find them of great help, they can answer a lot of question for them, and places like "The Park" are nice to use and the people are very friendly and you can get some great buys for yourself or for resale.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Well change, yes, I was able to retire early from my job in the Emergency Room of our local hospital. My husband has learned a new respect for my judgment of buying things, like that pig, he laughed at me when I bought it and I like they say I Laughed All The Way To The Bank. Now he never questions when I say I will get this or that to sell on eBay. My house will never be the same, as any seller knows unless you have a second building that you use to store eBay things, you have lost a good bit of each and every room. One of the best things after early retirement is all the great friends I have made selling and buying, one especially from South Carolina who I now consider my best friend and it all started over a copper canister set that I bought from her, we visit each other every summer and have seen each other thru some hard times and without eBay I would have never known her.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
I can't think of any one thing that is most helpful unless it would be the ability to search past sold items for research, there are so many helpful features, I think using the tutorials is very helpful also.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I have bought so many things for myself and it's a saying around this house if you are looking for something that you can't buy at the grocery, "HAVE YOU CHECKED ON EBAY FOR IT?"
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
Nothing yet, but if I win the lift chair for the stairway that I am bidding on right now you can bet it will make a dramatic change is the pain I suffer getting up and down the stairs.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay Means-Not having to go out in the cold to work. Having extra cash without going to a job where some else is the boss I like being my own boss. Afternoon naps not just 15-minute breaks. Working when I want to work and making enough money to get my PT CRUISER ™. |

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
Oct 28, 1998 was when I first signed up. I mostly sell Tatouage Mural items, and I am a Trading Assistant as well. I sometimes buy cameras or lenses, or something the kids want.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I heard about it through a Disney convention, where I was told by a vendor to "try eBay" for the item I was trying to sell. (It was a Grolier Disney character carousel.)
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
About three times a day - either for research or something I want to bid on.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
I sold a Disney employee jacket, which was almost impossible to get, and even harder to find, now! It was an actual part of the "costume" employees use for the uniform. But I have sold everything from a Chevy Truck, to Japanese anime, to women's clothing, to hard-to-find record albums.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
To sell items, I use as many pictures as I can, and describe everything with as many details as possible. And I use spell check! When I want to purchase something, I always decide in advance what my top price will be, but not bid until the last day. That way, if the item has gone beyond my limit, I have not wasted time or effort on that auction. There will always be another auction for the same item!
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
The same as I tell my Trading Assistant customers - do your research! If you have an item you want to sell - or buy - watch auctions for that item for at least a week. See what the going price is, and compare auctions to other Internet sources. Then your expectations will be more realistic, and you will know if you want to sell your item (or buy one) for that price.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Since I have a rating over 1,000, I believe that I have a rating that proves I am a reliable seller. There are other sellers "out there" who sell the same product, but do not have the guarantee, quick service, or packaging that I offer.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Sometimes I do participate in either the AOL Chat room, or Seller's Discussion Boards. Usually about once a month, I check to see if there is anything new, or that I feel should be discussed more in depth.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
You can't get answers to your questions, if you don't ask! Even if you just say, "hi, I'm new", you have made contact with other sellers who can help you, or give you ideas.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
YES! I have the extra income, since I am a stay-at-home mom. I can buy those extra things that kids always seem to need, and still be here for them to help with homework.
I was able to afford to become a Tatouage Consultant, and that also gave a boost to eBay sales.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Invoicing Service has been absolutely wonderful! I don't have to look up the customer's email, type up the invoice, and send it, wondering if they received it. With the automatic service, the email is already filled out, and I only have to hit "send". What a time saver! Second choice would be Live Help. If I have a question, I can get it answered fairly quickly, instead of waiting days for an email that may or may not answer the question.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I mainly use eBay to sell the Tatouage rub-on transfers for murals. But occasionally, a customer wants to sell something, and I assist them. I just made a purchase from a seller for a camera lens. My husband is currently looking for Mech Warrior toys - er, figures.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I purchased an oxygen machine for my grandfather. His doctor would not prescribe one, and the machines are expensive to purchase from medical supply stores. Buying one on eBay, with my whole family participating in the purchase, has brought my family closer together. And it has helped him dramatically for his breathing!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means income, to be blunt. But, I also get to meet many people, across the nation, that I would not otherwise have contact with. I get to help people, on my own hours, and not interfere with my kid's schedule. I also get to find items for a better price than I would in the stores. eBay is a money-, time-, and sanity saver!

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I've been a member since August of 2000. However, I did not start selling whole hog until May or June of this year. And once that bug bit, I was hooked on selling. I still buy quite a bit. From dog treats to jewelry supplies, I find the best buys right here. Leave the house? There's no reason to, with eBay.
As for selling, I'm addicted to porcelain hinged boxes. I love those little boogers. When I buy them, to get the best price, I buy more than one, up to five at a time, which really doesn't get me the best price, now doesn't it? But it works out in the end, because that is the bulk of what I sell on eBay.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Everyone has heard of eBay, haven't they? I don't know anyone, even those who do not use a computer, that hasn't heard of eBay. Even my parents, who still think computers are just a fad, know I sell and buy on eBay, and ask me about my experience on here often. They even call me, if they've seen one of the eBay commercials, to ask if I've seen it.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
Every day, hour, minute. I can be online, perusing eBay, at any given moment. I'll wake up during the night thinking of something I might want to purchase, and I consult eBay before anywhere else. If I can wait on an item, I'll watch eBay to see if it's ever listed, and it usually is. Someone is always selling something on eBay, which means, eventually, everything and anything someone might want is right here! I've even addicted a few of my friends on eBay, so we can talk about our experiences.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
Although not as strange as some things I have seen here, I did sell a tealeaf reading cup and book. I never thought that would sell, but it received the first bid within the first few hours after I listed it. The strangest thing ever bought, although it is very common, but just sounds weird, is a box of 100 pigs ears... for my two dogs.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I always update my email signature line to reflect my new listings. So, those folks I email can just click on over to the item, and hopefully bid. I also utilize eBay Groups and Discussions, and all the Share-Your-Wares posts as possible. They truly do help to sell items. There are quite a few Groups and Discussion members who just buy things, and they're always looking at those Share-Your-Wares. Most everything I've posted in there has sold. When purchasing an item, I always keep it in my My eBay even after bidding has ended and the bid has gotten higher than I had wanted to pay, just to see if the seller lists another of the same item. A trick that has worked on several occasions.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
As a buyer, my first action before bidding on an item is to look at the seller's feedback. Negative feedback does not affect my decision to bid or not. What does give me pause is the seller's response to negative feedback. If the seller is nasty in their remarks, I move on. There's no excuse for being mean and hateful. So, my tips would be to put the customer first and always be nice, no matter what.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
I blush when reading some of my feedback. It makes me feel good to know that I eventually made an auction winner happy with what they received. I think that's how my feedback has improved my reputation, by my written responses to those less-than-enthusiastic feedback statements.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I'm more active in eBay Groups, as opposed to the Discussions, except for The Park in the General Discussions Groups area. I'm a member of The Golden Oldies Friendly 30s 40s 50s +, SELLER CENTRAL, Beads, beads and more beads, Creators with a Cause and a few more eBay Groups.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
To new members I would say that it's important to stay connected to those who sell and buy the same items you do, and also just to stay connected to other eBayers.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
eBay has changed the way I speak and write. I actually use the word 'eBayer(s)' quite often. It has also literally changed my life. Living with a disability, I developed a lifestyle dedicated to compensating for my condition. Now, that I have others depending on me, even if it is just to get a package shipped, I make it happen. I appreciate every eBay customer for giving me a quality of life I have not had in a while.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Oh, by far, the most helpful feature is the Live Help chat. I got answers right away. Friendly, expert advice. It's wonderful!
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
As I mentioned, I buy many items through eBay. You cannot get a better deal on doggy treats anywhere, on or off the Web. Unusual items catch my eye on occasion, such as a vintage Politic Party t-shirt I could not pass up. I mainly use eBay to sell, now, but as a buyer, I try to find my everyday items on eBay in bulk. That way, I can have them delivered straight to my house, allowing me even more time to do the thing I like best, which is eBaying, of course!
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
The one purchase that has truly changed the way I live is the pigs ears. I can't help it. It saves me so many trips to the pet store. I have two very large dogs. So, you can imagine, the trips were frequent, VERY frequent!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay has given me a quality of life I thought I'd never have again. eBay has connected me to others, like myself, who suffer with life-limiting afflictions and also with folks who just like to buy and sell on the web.
It truly is a community, one that I intend to be a member of for life.

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been using eBay Site for a little over 4 years. I use it mostly to Sell Antique/Vintage Jewelry, but I also Designer Clothing that is discounted.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
I heard about eBay from a friend back in 1999.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
I visit eBay at least 3-4 times a day to check on my auctions and look at others, as well as answer any questions that people may have for me.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
The most Unique Items that I bought on eBay were Vintage Russian Posters from the Soviet Era. The most unique Item I sold on eBay was an Antique Peacock Rhinestone Pin from the early 1930's that was in immaculate shape, and absolutely gorgeous.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My main strategy is not to mark up any items that I sell too high; that turns people away if they have a budget, and also I use html coding (e.g. background color, font color, etc.) to make it look very appealing, and not too generic.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Start out at the lowest price that would still make you a profit. Don't list an item for as much as you hope it would sell for, most of the time it will get bid higher than what you first listed it for.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
Feedback rating is the most clever and amazing thing that was ever invented. It allows me as the seller to check out what people have said about my bidders, and to know in advance if I may have problems with getting payment or other things.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I usually don't due to lack of time, but would like to in the future.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
The help section has really helped me when I first started out, and I still check it out for references.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, my life has definitely changed since I started selling and buying on eBay. There are many things that I have not been able to find anywhere, and I know that I can always find it on eBay!
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The best feature that has been most helpful to me is the photo uploading. Before I had somewhere to upload my photos, I could always use eBay's, and now it has gotten even better.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
Yes, I have bought many items on eBay. I have bought Sports Memorabilia, which I would normally not know where to buy, as well as childrens items that were no longer in stores, for instance 'Nemo'™ toys from MacDonald's Happy Meals™, that they stopped carrying after a few weeks.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I bought a Laptop on eBay that helped me check my Auctions when I am traveling, as well as being able to communicate with my customers while I am away.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay to me is something I can do from home, on my schedule and at my own pace, and at the same time make extra money. I can do it from anywhere in the world and still be connected to my customers. eBay gave me an opportunity to have my own small business and be able to do it from home. |

How long have you been using eBay and what do you use it for?
I have used the site since June 1998, mostly buying and selling albums and 45's that may be used as the content of freelance articles and book material.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
Someone recommended that I check the site out to find certain rare records that I had not been able to previously acquire.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
About four to five times a day.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
I purchased an album by the New Zealand rock band Dragon; the album was autographed by all six members at the time of its release (two have since passed away). It's one of my favorite records, and I have it framed and on my wall.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
When I buy, I try to use certain keywords in anticipation of how a person might spell an artist's name, and use a minus symbol ( "-" ) before words that I don't want to appear in my search. Typing "-karaoke", for example, eliminates most of the karaoke CD's from my search and makes it easier to find what I really want.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
When you're buying, ask the dealer questions about the item. If you're selling, answer the questions to the best of your ability.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
It's easy to accumulate a high feedback rating by simply buying lots of items. But since my spotless record involves buying AND selling, it shows that people can bid with confidence in my auction and receive their items safely; and it shows sellers that I will honor my bids as a winning bidder.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I actually hosted a well-received seminar in August 2002 about record collecting, including the proper packaging and shipping of fragile 78's and cylinders.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give someone new to encourage him or her to join in a chat?
The discussion boards are made up of eBay members, just like you. They have the answers to your questions, and you might have some of the answers to THEIR questions. If you participate, your information can help make everybody's eBay experience that much more fulfilling.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
I would say yes. With the avenue of Internet shopping and auctioning, eBay has helped enhance my personal record collection, as well as provided information and materials for future published articles.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The ability to pay electronically, both with PayPal and with Western Union Auction Payments, has helped tremendously. No "checks lost in the mail," no running to the post office to get a money order. A few clicks and payment is sent safe and secure.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I have mostly bought on eBay, but on occasion I do sell items. For example, I had to purchase several rare records on eBay to use for an upcoming record collector's guide. After the guide was published, I turned around and sold the records back on eBay, so now they're in the hands of appreciative collectors.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I purchased some homemade-recorded acetates from an estate seller. These acetates were recorded from a West Virginia radio station in the 1940's, and contain transcriptions of artists whose voices were thought to have been lost. I had the pleasure of donating several of these acetates to the Country Music Hall of Fame, and eventually wrote an article about the history of that West Virginia station (WWVA) for the Journal of Country Music.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay provides me with an opportunity to visit thousands of record stores worldwide. I can discover new sounds and old classics from around the world, from rare pink Lambert cylinders to durable Edison Diamond Discs; from rare Elvis Presley 78's to the first recordings by Nirvana. As a musicologist, audiophile and collector, eBay has helped me tremendously, and I don't think I could have ever found those recordings in other traditional locations - at least not without a lot of air travel. |

How long have you been using the eBay site and what do you use it for?
I have been selling on eBay since April 2000 and I mainly sell doll clothes.
How did you first hear about eBay? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.):
heard about eBay through an online chat room and a cyber friend.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay site?
I visit several times a day-more often during my busiest season of selling.
What is the most unique thing that you have bought or sold?
All of my doll clothes are unique as I try to only make one of each item.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I try to make sure I am available for answering questions concerning the items I have up for sale and offer the best customer service I possibly can.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items?
Customer service and being polite is the best tips I can give out. I treat people, as I want to be treated.
Tell us how your Feedback rating has improved your reputation?
The higher my feedback goes the more comfortable people seem to be to deal with me.
Do you participate in the chat rooms, or the discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
No, I don't participate mainly because of a lack of time.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay site? If so, in what way?
Yes, it has changed big time, because I have been able to expand my Doll Clothes business on line and the sales have been tremendous. I can basically count on a pretty steady income during the fall months to supplement my show income and provide for extras in my household. Actually, last fall while neither my husband or myself were working out of the house, my sales on eBay were the sole source of income for us.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Tutorial taught me how to use eBay more effectively.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
Yes, I have bought often on eBay. Mostly Western Equitation supplies that I cannot find locally at such awesome prices.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay gives me the option of being able to stay at home and reach a lot more people than I ever could just selling my wares at local craft shows. |

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I've been a member of Ebay since June of 2003. I am an active seller on Ebay...
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I've heard about it so many places, I can't remember the first time
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Several times a day
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I sell my own cigar box purses...each one is unique and a one of a kind design. I take a lot of pride in the details of my work, and enjoy the feedback I get from customers. I also have sold Beatles memorabilia, and I have sold excellent copies of my invitation to JFK's inauguration. I also have sold my own knitting patterns.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My strategy is to know the market and know the business to more effectively sell. I make sure that I know my customers needs and wants, and make my items accessible with the right pricing. I also make each customer feel special with personal emails, or sometimes I add a little bonus item. Go the extra mile. I find that the right keywords, and the best picture can make all the difference.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Do your homework before starting! I can always tell if someones new because they make many of the same mistakes. Read all that Ebay had to offer and go to chat rooms or message boards to gain knowledge and information. Test the water first, before diving in. The first time you sell an item can be very gratifying and it never gets "old"....
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Feedback is very important. It can make the difference if you sell an item, or a competitor sells, even if they charge more. Guide people who are browsing to your feedback, ...it will make them confident that you are a pro...the more positive feedback, the more you sell.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
Occasionally, but I don't have as much time as I'd like to do that...
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
If you're new to selling, you can gain a lot of help and knowledge through others...also, they can tell you what to look out for...the do's and don'ts
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I love working for myself at home. It has given me much needed added income. Also, it has given me an outlet to sell that I wouldn't have otherwise. Ebay is seen by millions of potential buyers everyday. What could be better!
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Paypal...without it, I wouldn't be able to accept credit cards. That accounts for about 95% of my sales...
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I haven't bought anything yet, but I certainly would. There's so much available, and you can find anything!
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
No
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
I once worked as a spokesperson for a large automobile company and had a nice income.
A couple of years ago, I quit my job to stay home and care for my mother 24/7 so she wouldn't need to go into a nursing home. It was a difficult time for me emotionally and financially. Ebay gave me a chance to start my own business on my own terms out of my home. It was the one thing that I had control of and the flexibility to do as much or as little as time would permit. When she died in November of 2003, I was planning to go back to work once I could deal with my grief. But, almost immediately, I realized my dad was ill. It turned out he had terminal colon and liver cancer and I needed to be there for him. We were all very close and I needed to spend much time in the hospital. He passed away in April of this year, and I was shattered. I had lost my beloved parents within 5 months of each other and I was alone...with no job in sight yet. I had a mortgage and all the other bills on my shoulders. Ebay helped me gain income in my time of need, which is still the case. My business is building, and I hope to keep expanding with new product and customers. The economy in Michigan is not very good right now and jobs are at a premium in most fields. I appreciate those who have bought from me,...they have done more for me than they might have realized, even though my business is still small...

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
Since Jan '97. I started selling part time, then became a full time antique dealer, bought a 'bricks & mortar' shop, and supplement the shop with eBay sales.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I was searching for Pez for my daughter for Christmas, and found the site. At that time the membership was about 30 people, and every night we'd all chat in the 'cafe' (primarily about Pez) & wondered if anyone else would ever discover eBay.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
8 hours a day in the winter; constantly checking from my store during the summer.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
BOUGHT: I bought a lock of hair & an obituary of a little boy who died in 1863 during the civil war. I think it deserves a nice home after being treasured & kept for the past 140 years.
SOLD: I sold the college geology book used by William Peary the explorer, found by my best friend at a yard sale in Alaska for $5. The man who bought it was from Texas & I told him the $100 he paid was going to my friends son Zeke, who was saving to some day go to Florida to see a space shuttle launch. The buyer sent an extra $100 for Zeke, as he himself had always wanted to see a space launch. Well, we all ended up emailing, and about 3 months later the buyer invited Zeke & his parents to an all-expense-paid trip Florida to see a live launch! You never know where a sale will lead you....
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I work 8 hours a day on eBay in the winter. I keep my prices down so items are affordable, even though they are antique. I take a lot of really good pictures, use the 'bold' feature and always use 'gallery' . I also try to always always always be sure the customer is satisfied & happy. I don't overcharge on mailing and I try to be honest and fun to deal with. Humor goes a long way!
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Be honest, be pleasant, be kind---you probably won't get rich, but you'll have fun. Be sure to follow-through and remember 'try to keep the customer satisfied'. Use Paypal---you'll lose bidders if you don't! If you're buying, check out the feedback BEFORE you bid!
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Well, the only negatives I have, I gave to myself in a hurry to explain things (back in the old days when this could happen!) I think my feedback lets future bidders know I'm a reputable person and they can buy with confidence.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I like to browse the antique boards or the specific collectible I'm researching, to see what buyers look for in a particular category & to learn more. I like to write my own templates, so I check the boards for HTML tips as well. I also watch the discussions about eBay enhancements to see which ones are working, what other sellers have to say about them, and which still have 'bugs'.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
Jump in and try! It's the only way you'll learn how to do it and everyone has started at the beginning. Most people are thrilled to help 'newbies'. It's a great way to make friends and learn a lot!
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Oh, my goodness, has it ever! When I started on eBay it was just getting going and I had a full time insurance career. 7 years later, I've quit my career, bought an 18 room Victorian mansion (with my eBay sales as the down payment) that I use as my shop, have become a full-time antique dealer, wear jeans, not panty-hose, and I get to go to Europe twice a year on buying trips---life is fun now---I'm having a blast, I'm addicted to eBay and I couldn't dream of anything better!
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The 'completed auctions' search, which is great for researching price levels and the best categories to list my item under. And Paypal!
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Although my 'job' is selling, I buy about 80% of our household & office items on eBay--jeans, dog leashes, CDs, books, pens, cookware, sheets, hairbrushes, computers, jewelry, sheep halters---everything except the groceries!
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I'd have to say that first Pez I bought--- it was the start of my new life!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
It's given me the freedom to live my life the way I've always wanted to. |

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
In June 2001 I registered and stayed up all night looking for flamingo items! I mostly buy items that my grandmother had in her attic in the 60s: ceramic flamingos, old children's books, 50s and 60s children's games, 60s Barbies, embroidered linens and chrome deco items.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
My aunt told me about the site. I had some items to sell and did not want to haul them to a flea market.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
At least once each day.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
A fabulous deco smoking stand this year. It is bronze and I plan to have it chrome plated.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I mainly buy items and use as many search words as possible to find. When I sell, I attempt to describe objects as thoroughly and provide clear pictures.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
To describe as accurately as possible and to provide clear pictures of the item. I appreciate it when a seller lets me know "A 1/16" chip is on the underside of the item, that doesn't show on the picture". i appreciate getting an item that doesn't have any surprise features that weren't listed in the description.
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I hope that sellers trust me to pay quickly when buying and to describe completely and package securely when selling.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I love to visit the animal and crafts boards. I have many rubber stamps and live animals!
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
The ebay site is so vast, it would be a helpful and welcoming way to learn the ropes. I'm still learning!
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I'm financially much poorer! Just kidding! I love to buy and most of my transactions have been happy ones. I also love to hear from buyers that are happy with what I have sold.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Discussion boards and help sites.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Most of my transactions involve buying. I am so thrilled to find an item I lost or gave away during my childhood! I've sold a few items and am pleased when the buyer is satisfied. My most recent auctions have been cat items and rubber stamps. My house is overflowing with these...
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I started collecting Miss Priss ceramics and was ecstatic to have found a 6-cup teapot!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
It's entertainment: I can stay home to buy and sell and I have made a lot of great friends!

How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
A little over a year and a half. I use it to sell quality movies and DVDs and to find DVDs that I would like to add to my collection.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
My husband use to do the packaging and shipping for another Ebay seller and we decided we might as well do this ourselves.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I enter the Ebay site daily. Sometimes as many as 10 times a day.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I once sold the Disney movie "Flight of the Navigator". I was really surprised at how much it was in demand and what it sold for.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My husband helps me out a lot. He worked at a theater for 10 years and is also an avid movie buff, so he can pretty much tell me what is going to sell and what isn't.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
My suggestion to fellow Ebay sellers is to research your product, check on past selling prices, give an honest and accurate description of the item, and start your opening bids low. Most of all...DO NOT CHARGE A HANDLING FEE! These outrageous charges tend to make people shy away from your product.
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I believe that, once people see my Feedback rating and read some of the comments, they know that they can buy from me with confidence.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I haven't as of yet, but I am sure that, as time goes on, I will start to.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Ebay has given me the opportunity to have fun while making money, where I would of been doing nothing anyways. It is a great hobby to have and I would recommend it to anyone that is considering it.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The "Search for Completed Auctions" has served me best. This feature gives me an idea as to what I should start my auctions at and what to expect them to end at. This also gives me an idea of how to list the items I have to sell.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I have bought multiple items through Ebay, and will continue to buy this way. Where else can you get the things you want while controlling how much you are willing to pay for them?
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I don't think anything I have bought has dramatically change my live, but I do know that many of my purchases have made my family and I more happy.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
Ebay has saved me from the depression that most Housewives suffer do to the same old grind and boredom. Thank you Ebay for making my life more enjoyable while making a little extra spending cash. |

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Clothing, Shoes, & Accessories and Computers & Networking
How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I started in 2001 when I was still in Grad school. I use it mainly for buying and selling computer accessories, because I need always need extra storage for my research data. Then I started using it a lot when I was pregnant with my daughter. First, I bought cloth diapers and cloth for her before she was born. Then I started selling Children's boutique cloth and accessories regularly in 2003.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
A fellow graduate student told me about eBay in 2000 (I think), we were chatting about where to get computer parts. How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
When I am selling, I check my listing at least twice a day. When I am not selling, I still visit eBay as long as I have time to browse the internet.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I sold a lot of Burberry baby rompers on eBay, and I had costumer all over the world covering five continents! I met a lot of new friends through that line.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I love international buyers, so I always run an “around-the-world” shipping special. My shipping special covers the globe, and the bidding wars it created are often very impressive!
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
Be careful what you buy and watch your inventory! I always spend too much money of inventory. Being a mom who works part-time, has projects very often, and selling on eBay, it can be very overwhelmed from time to time. So only buys what you think you will have time to sell. Inventories are hard to keep up too. Keep up with inventory, knowing what you have and when to sell what is the main key of making money!
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I work very hard to maintain my perfect feedback, and it has proven to help me when people bid. I think my buyers trust me to ship items fast and follow through, because my feedbacks tell them so.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I visit the discussion boards a lot to find answers and advise. I visit the discussion boards about once a week, and more often if I have a hard-to-id piece especially needs help. I only tried chat rooms twice, because I don't have a lot of time to stay on line for a long period of time (unless I am working on listings and shipping!).
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
It is free and full of people with wisdom! I found great advise for dealing with uneasy situations, and also got answers for cloth pieces that I cannot id myself.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Oh, yes! If I am going to buy something I can't get from Target, I check on eBay first. It also let me discover the part of me that is not academia; I found more potential in myself.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
My eBay. It seems so obvious, but it is always very helpful to keep me informed of what I am selling, what I need to ship, and feedbacks to leave. It is also free, which is awesome!
Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I guess I collect little girl's cloth for my daughter. I started after she was born because we didn't' know her sex until she was born. I especially love Gymboree, because you can mix and match and the quality is good. I also love brands like Jacadi, Catimini, and Tea Collections. I also buys a lot of her cloth from Taiwan, and would love to introduce some of the children's boutique from Taiwan, where I was born and raised.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I Buy probably about half of my daughter's wardrobe from eBay, and I am constantly looking for new cloth for her. This summer my mom and my sister bought her closet full of stuff, so I probably have to wait until Fall this year. I also buy some of my computer and IT accessories and parts from eBay. I am the tech geek of our household, so I shop at where I am most familiar. I bought parts to repair my husband's laptop, and extra memories to boost up our laptops. We have moth PC and MAC at home, so it is tricky to maintain!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means “opportunity” to me. I can find computer parts to fix my laptop, so I don't have to send it oversea for repair. I can shop when I was on bed rest. I can work but not losing any moment of my daughter's first two year in this world. A lot of opportunity for me to explore!

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Clothes, Shoes and Accessories
How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
Since May 2003. I use it to sell clothes and to buy mainly clothes.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
Advertisements
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
At least once a day.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I am not sure about the most unique item, but I have met some nice people on eBay, especially a woman in Australia. You find out a lot about another country. I actually shipped some items we have here in the US that they do not have yet in her country. We have been emailing buddies since then!!
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy? I sell a lot of my daughter's clothes and my clothes on eBay and I always set the starting prices very low. I am not trying to make a living off this; I'm trying to make enough to buy more clothes to replace the ones I sell!!! I also do not try to make a profit off shipping costs. I offer to refund the difference of the shipping price at the buyer's request if the shipping is lower than what I quoted on the auction listing. I like to do right by the buyers because I know that I always check out the shipping cost before bidding, which makes a difference for me whether or not I would want to bid on that auction.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
I would tell them to be honest when listing. I have bought items before and the items would come in with stains or something not mentioned and it makes it hard to make a decision about whether or not to make an issue, especially if I bought the items at such a good cheap price, but then again, I would like for the item to be well represented in the auction listing also.
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
I think that as I sell and buy more on eBay, it helps the people buying from and selling to me realize that I'm trustworthy. I really enjoy getting on eBay everyday and checking out my feedback to make sure that everyone is happy with their purchase. I also would like to stress the importance of leaving feedback to those that do not realize that people base a lot of their opinions by someone's feedback rating.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
No I do not participate…..YET
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I have gotten rid of a lot of things in my closet and I have reinforced my cause of buying more clothes to replace those. My husband is always checking the mailbox and front door for packages just to see what I have bought on eBay. He also has helped out tremendously in the shipping department!!! He has mastered the kiosk at the post office!!!
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
The Selling part of eBay. I have gotten some wonderful ideas on how to set up my auctions.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
Yes I buy things on eBay as well as sell them.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I cannot say that I have purchased something that has dramatically changed my life. Maybe one day, a package will arrive that does though, I'll just have to keep buying!!!
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay means having something to look forward to when I get home, I love checking out how my auctions are doing or how the bidding is going on an item I'm watching. It is kind of like having an addiction but once I check out my eBay business, I'm satisfied, then I turn all of my attention to my family. |

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold? Sports cards and Memorabilia
How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for?
I have used eBay for buying and selling for nearly 6 and ½ years. Over the last 3 years, I primarily use eBay for selling.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I heard about eBay at one of the local Baseball card shows.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
I would say I check the site anywhere from 5-10 times a day, and possibly more if I have auctions running.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
I once sold a Phantom of the Opera program that I got from a play I saw in Seventh grade. After the show was over, one of the ushers was going to throw out a whole case of programs. The young entrepreneur in me asked if I could have the case and got my teacher's approval to bring it home on the bus with me. Nearly 10 years later, I still had about 20 of the programs in good shape, so I threw some on eBay and had some success with them.
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
I try to use current market conditions to dictate what I will sell and I always try to research what items similar to mine have sold for in the past. I also use my feedback record as a tool to help boost my sales and to ensure my bidders that they will be pleased with whatever they purchase from me.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
For buyers…..Be patient, and be firm. eBay is by far and away the biggest store you will ever see. If you are outbid, usually, there will be more chances in the (sometimes near) future. For Sellers……Be Resourceful and always have some knowledge of what you are selling. IF pictures cannot be provided, an accurate and detailed item description can usually do the job just fine. Also for sellers, high shipping/handling charges WILL ALWAYS shy bidders away.
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
Well, I managed to score my one and only negative from a bidder who assumed I was leaving the country with his $7…..It didn't last me long, so I returned….LOL…I have nearly 800 feedbacks now and a solid 99.9% rating. I don't look at it as a blemish though, because bidders see the volume I sell in and appreciate the kind of remarks I receive.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I don't have much time for them, but I am looking forward to checking them from time to time from this point on.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
Yes!! DEFINITELY!! I started using eBay as a source to buy items. Not doing much research really killed me. Once I started selling in volume, I managed to use my eBay funds to pay for my wedding (August 2004), and to put a down payment on my first house. EBay is truly amazing and I don't know what my life would be like without this asset!
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Without a doubt, it's PayPal. It enables bidders to pay instantly with credit cards and receive their items fast.
Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
I am a sports card collector that both buys and sells on eBay. When I started out on eBay in 1999, my collection was probably worth around $1000. Now, I have an extensive collection and a great reputation with hundreds of return and repeat customers!
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it. Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it:
I still use eBay to purchase items, as I said before, nowhere on earth will you find a flea market or superstore this big. I love to bargain shop and eBay has plenty of diamonds in the rough!
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
I don't recall ever buying anything that changed my life dramatically. I did sell an item once that affected me though. I ran a 500 count lot of Pat Lafontaine cards about 2 years ago. The winner of the auction was holding a charity event at which Pat was to be signing autographs for sick kids. I felt honored to mail the refund (along with the lot of cards) just to have the chance to help out. Turns out, I got a nice letter about a month later, and 3 cards were sent back to me autographed. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had on eBay and not to mention, one of the most self-gratifying.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
To me, eBay would best be summarized as opportunity. |

What is the main category on the eBay Site in which your items are bought or sold?
Jewelry
How long have you been using the eBay Site and what do you use it for? I started selling small items of jewelry on ebay back in 2002. Slowly over the next two years I started adding more listings, adding more features. When my youngest son started school this past September I vowed to become a Power Seller within a year so that I didn't have to go out to work. I opened a featured store and kept adding inventory. I now have about 500 listings, mostly in Buy Now. In December I made Power Seller and my husband now agrees that it would be silly for me to go get a job!
I also shop eBay regularly. I get mostly toys and collectables for my kids. I also keep my eye on the other jewelry sellers to what the competition is. I have also found some great wholesale suppliers on eBay. I get all my shipping materials from eBay sellers.
How did you first hear about the eBay Site? (i.e., friend, family, search engine, advertisement, etc.)
I have no idea how I came across eBay! I've been a web surfer since 1992 and eventually just found eBay.
How often do you visit or browse the eBay Site?
Every single day.
What is the most unique item you have bought or sold on eBay?
The most unique item I got on eBay isn't really so unique – it was just really hard to find. At the age of 3 my son was an avid Batman & Robin fan, but Robin is his idol. He wanted a Robin costume. At the time, you couldn't find Robin anywhere – only Batman. But I found an incredible deal on a quality costume from an eBay seller in Australia . My son still wears them as pajamas (almost 3 years later).
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you to sell the items that you really want to sell? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, do you have a certain strategy that helps you purchase the items that you really want to buy?
My strategy on selling is this : ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE and then ADVERTISE some more!. If shoppers don't know your there, they won't come! I list a lot of auctions weekly at very low prices. I use eBay key words. I have submitted my site to search engines and I send out a newsletter a few times a year telling my subscribers about new fashion trends in jewelry. Although I rely mostly on the Buy Now sales for actually making money, I think that the low price auctions bring in many browsers who become customers. I place one of my logo business cards in every package I ship, and every label and every letterhead have my logo and my URL on them. Since the ebay URL is a little long, I even have my own domain – Silver-Bees.com.
What tips would you give to people out there who are selling or buying their items on the eBay Site?
A major tip on buying – always check the shipping/handling fees before you bid! There are some sellers that list their merchandise for really low prices but they jack up the shipping/handling fees to make up for it. Also, read all the seller's terms before you bid, and check their feedback.
On selling – start with small stuff that you may have around the house or that you got really cheap so you don't start off investing a lot of money. Build your reputation before you seriously invest. It took me 3 years to get to this level, and I would like to make it to Gold Power Seller within the next year.
Tell us how your feedback rating on the eBay Site has improved your reputation as a buyer or a seller?
As a seller I have a 99.9% positive feedback rating. I got one negative comment once from someone that wasn't happy with the $5 sh/h fee! Although it was clearly stated in the auction, she felt ripped off. I have since lowered my fee to a flat rate of $2.95 and I combine all purchases. I had to find ways to reduce expenses to make up for it, so I found my mailers cheaper from an eBay seller. I joined an online postage company to get cheaper rates for delivery confirmation, and I self insure all my packages, so insurance is included in the sh/h fee. I use white padded shipping envelopes with white shipping labels and all jewelry goes in a gift box. I include an eBay invoice printed on letterhead and a business card. I run a professional business and I try to reflect that on all my materials. I think that the feedback ratings make me work harder to get the best feedback.
Do you participate in eBay's chat rooms or discussion boards? If you do, how often and which ones do you visit?
I've started investigating the chat rooms and discussion boards just recently. I didn't realize that there was one just for jewelry sellers, and I quickly started reading. I do plan to visit more often and to participate in the boards. It's a great networking tool. And the people are nice.
If you participate on any of eBay's Chat, Help, or Discussion boards, what reasons would you give a new eBay member to encourage them to join in?
New eBay members should especially visit the boards! It's probably the best way to learn how eBay works.
Has your life changed since you began visiting the eBay Site? If so, in what way?
I fulfilled a life long dream to have my own home business. A successful home business.
What eBay feature or service would you say has been the most helpful to you and why?
Owning an eBay store! I get to list a lot more stuff than if I didn't have a store. The listing fees in stores are much less than that of auctions and the risk of selling something at too low a price is gone.
Are you a collector who buys or sells on eBay? If so, tell us about your collection and how you got started.
Nope, no collections, unless you count the endless Super Hero toys that I buy!
If you mainly use eBay to sell items, have you ever bought anything on eBay? Or if you mainly use eBay to purchase items, have you ever sold anything on eBay? Please tell us about it.
I buy stuff on eBay all the time, although I'm more of a seller.
Have you ever purchased an item on the eBay Site that dramatically changed your life? If so, what was it and what change did it make?
A dramatic change to my life from one item, no. The whole site though has impacted my life allowing me to be a work at home mom.
Can you give us a brief description of what eBay means to you?
eBay allows me to “do it all”. I have my own business and I'm a stay at home mom.
