And The Winner Is...eBay!
eBay proudly received the consumer e-commerce NetCash Award at the First Annual Interop Enterprise Awards Program held in May. The Interop Enterprise Awards recognize the groundbreaking ways organizations are putting business and technology solutions to work in today's Internet economy. The awards ceremony was held at NetWorld+Interop Spring 99 in Las Vegas. Inter@ctive Week Editor-in-Chief Tom Steinert-Threlkeld said, "Winner eBay has created an entirely new way of linking buyers and sellers. The company's successful online auction service has created new markets for collectibles, merchandise, and services that literally did not exist before. This has spawned an entire cottage industry of small companies built specifically to cater to eBay's shopping audience. This has also inspired imitation from a raft of competitors, making the auction format one of the fundamental staples enabling electronic commerce on a widespread basis." eBay's Senior Vice President of Engineering, Michael Wilson, accepted the award for eBay. "Thank you," he said. "I'd like to remind everyone here that this award really goes to the millions of eBay buyers and sellers who have made eBay what it is today. By trading everything from Beanie Babies to bulldozers to equestrian gear on eBay, our users have literally changed their lives by finding something they've been looking for, meeting others who share their passions for collecting, or even quitting their 'day jobs' and making a living buying and selling the things they love on eBay. Together, they trade over 2 billion dollars worth of merchandise a year, making eBay the largest consumer e-commerce site on the Internet. Thanks again."
