The lace paper on this 8" X 10" work of art has an open-work design, and the central portion has been replaced with white satin. On the satin, a central basket of golden Dresden paper, filled with a mass of tiny embossed and hand-colored paper flowers has been applied. The four corners have painted paper pansies and silver ribbons. At the top is a tiny silver love bird carrying a message, and at the bottom are tiny clasped silver hands. On the four edges of the lace paper's central opening, in delicate penmanship, the following message is written:
Ma chere Amie!
Whose smiles can banish every care,
In kind gentleness smile thou on me
May friendship in thy bosom be,
Converted into love for me,
Ma chere Amie!
For love of thee is my fondest care!
Under sweet friendships sacred name
My heart has caught the tender flame.
