We asked some of our sellers for tips on selling successfully on eBay. Below are some excerpts from their responses.

The most powerful tip is that good customer service isn't good enough. It needs to be excellent.

Yes I have a tip for your sellers. I have found that putting the item up for the LEAST AMOUNT you will take for the item will get you more bids or higher bids instead of putting up a reserve. I spend LOTS of money on eBay and I won't bid on any items with a reserve. Although the reserve may be reasonable, sometimes, it is not. With almost a MILLION items up for sale, it is easier to go to the next item instead of wasting a bunch of time with senseless bids.

Aloha,
Keys to our success:
1. Provide fast shipments - same day shipping w/ credit card payments.
2. Offer free shipping because people think "Hawaii" is so far away.
3. Send email responses to everybody.
4. Streamline products, from scanner all the way to the shipping.
5. Color code merchandise for different day auctions.
6. Provide good value for the dollar.
7. Be consistent.

Hope this helps.

Mahalo.

Have bidders be more careful about bidding on sellers' items without checking feedback or checking that there are a lot of feedbacks when bidding on expensive items. I tell new buyers to bid with caution when a seller has less than 100 positive feedback and/or if they have negative feedback.

1) Make sure that any picture file that you use is small enough so that it doesn't take 2 minutes to load when potential bidders bring up your auction. People will not wait and you could lose a sale.

2) Make sure the description you provide is exact. People do not like surprises. If an item is supposed to be mint, it better be, since the use of the feedback system can destroy any trust that people will have when dealing with you. And as they say, it's a small world with the use of a computer.
