Hot Wheels—New Cars

Compiled by Jon Brecka

#773: Hot Wheels 500, neon yellow, Good Year black 7-spokes (large on back and small on front), metal base and wing, black interior, "Handy Racing" tampo, orange HW logo toward back of car, Malaysia. Coolness: 7 out of 10.

#795: Tractor, silver with black plastic cab, silver plastic scoop, black plastic base, huge knobby 8-dot construction on back/large knobby sawblades on front, gray interior, black HW logo on front, Malaysia. Looks like one of those Zamac cars. Coolness: 7 out of 10.

#860: Road Rocket, white and black plastic body, large 3-spokes on back/small on front, metal base, white interior, gray HW logo on side, Thailand. Coolness: 5 out of 10.

#874: Pit Crew Truck, gray with small 5-dots, red and blue tampo on sides, red plastic base, blue windows, red interior and rear doors, gray HW logo on side, Thailand. Coolness: 9 out of 10.

#993: Ferrari 348, yellow with smoked windows, medium 5-spokes on back/small on front, black plastic base, red HW logo on rear window, Thailand. Seems like Ive seen this car before (see pack #118). Coolness: 4 (because this car is a color retread).

#1003: Ferrari F40, black with clear windows, red interior, medium 5-spokes on back/small on front, metal base, white HW logo on rear, Malaysia. This is one of my favorite castings, and its spectacular in black. Coolness: 9 out of 10.

#1009: Peterbilt Dump Truck, blue cab with white plastic dumper, blue-tint metal base, black interior, medium 5-spokes, blue windows, white HW logo on hood, Malaysia. Mattel made this truck in almost this same color about 10 years ago. Coolness: 6 out of 10.

Hot Wheels—New Treasure Hunts
#931: 97 Corvette, #3 TH, light purple, bronze, red and white tampo on side and hood, tan interior, smoked windows, black plastic base, white HW logo on hood, large 5-dots, Thailand. I love this casting, but the color choices are horrid. Coolness: 5. I found this car on a peg, which is the first one I found for retail price this year.

Other new cars out:
#995 Porsche 911
#1001 Slideout
#1004 Dairy Delivery
#1005 Mercedes Unimog
#1006 Dodge Viper
#1007 Tow Jam
#1008 Chaparral 2
#1010 Ford Stake Bed Truck
#1011 Oshkosh Cement Truck
#1013 Mercedes 500 SL
#1015 Mercedes C-Class

Hot Wheels—New First Editions
#910: Monte Carlo Concept Car, 1999 #6 FE, red enamel, gray interior, smoked windows, small 5-spokes, silver-painted metal base, black Hot Wheels logo on side, Malaysia. Everyone was hoping that this was going to be a Dale Earnhardt-style car, but its as simple and plain as it gets. Coolness: 7 out of 10.

#911: Olds Aurora GT3, 1999 #5 FE, white with Hot Wheels logo on side and hood, gold lace wheels, black plastic base, clear windows, black plastic wing, Malaysia, black interior. One of the worst paint youll ever see. This car was changed to silver, and looks much better. The white version is selling from $5-$7. Coolness: 7 out of 10.

#914: Semi-Fast, 1999 #8 FE, red with large 5-spokes in back/medium on front, gray plastic engine, one grill chromed on front (theres a second version that has both grills chromed and another version with one gray grill only), metal base, black HW logo on side, black windows, Malaysia. Coolness: 9 of 10.

New Series
X-Ray Cruiser
#948: Jaguar XJ220, orange-yellow, black x-ray tampo, blue interior, clear windows, black plastic base, black HW logo on rear side, large 3-spokes on back, small on front, Malaysia. This series falls flat. Im, sure it seemed like a fine idea at the time. Coolness: 5.
Street Art
#950: Propper Chopper, green and black, black plastic everywhere but the body, yellow windshields, Malaysia. Coolness: 7.
#952: School Bus, yellow, red windows, red interior, indecipherable tampo on the side, black plastic base, small 5-dots, Malaysia. You can hardly tell this one from the 1998 Mixed Signals Series version. Mattel did change the color of this to white. Coolness: 2 (because Mattel plagiarized itself).
Variations
#691: Techno Bits Shadow Jet in blue. This is the third version of this car. The others are purple (very common) and deep purple/almost black (hard to find).
#739: Flying Aces Sol-Aire CX4 with 3-spokes.
#816: Ferrari 308 with 5-spokes and black interior (vs. tan interior). Seems to be pretty hard to find.
#853: Camaro Z-28 with 5-spokes.
#881: 95 Camaro with 5-spokes. I found a couple of these at a grocery store. These kinds of places often get different assortments of cars than do the regular retail outlets. This car has been selling for about $5.
#909: 1999 FE 99 Mustang with 3-spokes.
#947: X-Ray 67 Camaro with 3-spokes.
The Buggin Out Shadow Jet II is available in chrome 5-spokes, black 5-spokes and 5-holes.
