Adding International Buyers to your Buyer Block Exemption List
by Jim 'Griff' Griffith

Q: Hi Griff,
I took your class in Washington, D.C. and I need your help! How do I let an international member bid on an item I have listed for the United States only? My potential buyer is from Italy. I have tried adding her as an approved bidder, but she still can't bid on my item.
Regards,
Perplexed
A: Hello Perplexed,
Adding an international buyer to your pre-approved bidders list is not enough. In order to accept bids from international buyers located in countries you've specified you will not ship to, you have to add them to your Buyer Block Exemption list.
Try this:
Go to My eBay.
- Click the "All Selling" view.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Related Links box on the left and click the "more..." link.
- Click the link for "Block or Pre-approve Bidders." This will take you to the Buyer/Bidder Management page.
- On the bottom of the page is a section for Buyer Block Exemption List. Click the link for "Add a buyer to my Buyer Block Exemption List" and follow the instructions to add your international bidder's User ID.
If you subscribe to Selling Manager or Selling Manager Pro, scroll to the bottom of the Selling Manager view page and click the link for Block or Pre-approve Bidders. This will take you to the Buyer/Bidder Management page. From there, follow Step 5 above.
My advice is to open your listings to all eBay buyers around the world. I do the same with my own listings, and I've never had a problem. International shipping is actually a snap if you use the built in eBay Shipping Calculator to give your international buyers an idea of the shipping cost options you offer to ship your items to their locations. (You can do this for your US buyers too.)
Opening your listings to all eBay buyers around the globe will help you tap into a huge international market, and give you an edge over competing sellers who restrict their items to US buyers only!
Regards,
Griff
