eBay.ca … Everywhere!

Have you ever seen someone with eBay.ca splashed across his or her clothes waiting for the subway or an airplane? Come across a colourful eBay.ca pen at your neighbourhood restaurant in Vancouver?

If you haven't yet, you probably will because eBay.ca staff members have been spreading the word about eBay at tradeshows, eBay University sessions, and to just about everyone we meet.

In fact, we find that wearing our eBay.ca gear lets us strikes up conversations with eBay users and non-users everywhere we go. We hear stories about members' experiences on eBay and how eBay has changed some lives. There are stories of the people members have met online, as well as how they like our site. Some of the stories we hear get featured in 'My Story' on our site. But rarely do people get to hear our stories. I thought I would share some of the eBay stories of the eBay Canada staff:

Happy Holidays from Team Canada, eBay International A.G.!

"My fondest eBay.ca memory is selling eBay items to raise money for Auction for America. The emails I received were so touching and so kind. One buyer even paid for the item and donated it back to me to raise more funds. That's the eBay spirit to me." - Cheryl

"As part of a fundraising initiative for Alzheimer's research, I was able to raise over $5,000 by selling donated products and hotel stays on eBay.ca. I was also very touched by the good wishes and support received from eBay community members all over the world." - Jordan

"In the Spring, I was desperately looking for funky beige shoes in the stores. I couldn't find anything. Finally I saw a pair on eBay.ca that looked great. I bought these new Nicole Miller shoes for a deal at $19.99. I got them and they were great, but TOOOO small. Not to worry, I listed them on eBay and sold them for $US39.99." - Lisa

"I was searching for a pair of fairy wings for my daughter's Hallowe'en costume. I found a seller in Australia, and emailed her with a shipping question (cost/time) vs. the cost of the item (they weren't expensive.) The seller actually took the wings to the post office to have the correct shipping charges determined. Got back to me with an answer within a couple of hours. Great customer service!" - Alex

"I once won a $10 wall-sized Matador Records poster from a girl in Germany. I was paying by money order. She sent me her address, I sent the money order and it was returned to me with a wrong address notification. She told me that she moved, sent me her new address and I resent the money order. Once more it was returned. She apologized profusely and told me that she hadn't quite memorized her new address. She then went ahead and sent me the poster before I even sent the money order the third time. She told me she felt bad and wanted me to have the poster free of charge. I sent her the payment the third time anyways, since I'm a believer in good karma." - Matthew

"Knowing that eBay is a place to find replacement patterns for virtually any pattern of china that has even been made, I searched for extra pieces for my mother's Minton collection. I soon came across a small butter plate, something that she never had and which will make for the perfect Christmas gift to round out her china collection." - Mark

"My cat, Oreo, loves to play on my keyboard at home. I was browsing on eBay.ca at some pet toys and before I could stop her, she pressed submit, and I ended up as the high bidder for a black and white squeaky mouse toy. The toy arrived, and I couldn't believe how happy Oreo was. Now she can play with her own mouse while we browse the site!" - David

"I desperately wanted to work for eBay. However, I could not afford living in Toronto without work. Traveling back from an interview I bumped into a guy selling World Cup of Soccer merchandise in a subway station. I told him that I could sell it quickly on eBay.ca. We struck a deal and I sold over $2000 in merchandise in one month. With the cash I earned, I managed to stay in Toronto a little longer, got an interview with eBay, and landed the job! eBay saved me twice...first on the short term and now for the long-term!" - Eric

"I was bidding on a bike the other day and I got an email question from another eBay user who was bidding on the same bike. He was new to eBay and didn't understand how the price jumped from $1 - $400 in only 15 bids, he thought people had to bid in $1 increments. I emailed him back and told him about how the bidding system works. For good measure, I also told him about how to check out sellers using the feedback system, ID Card, etc. That email reminded me about my own experience getting started on eBay - reaching out and talking to other members for help & learning as you go. I'm glad that people still talk to each other and help each other out as opposed to just sending emails to customer support. This is what 'community' is all about." - Casey
