In June 2009, we're planning significant changes to the way we classify Women's Handbags & Bags.
eBay Item Specifics will change to Custom Item Specifics. In June, sellers who list their items directly on the eBay site (or via TurboLister) will see Item Specifics value suggestions, instead of the traditional hard-coded list of pre-determined choices. Sellers will be able to add values of their own if the suggested choices provided are not appropriate (learn more about Custom Item Specifics).
Please note: Sellers who list through 3rd party tools might not experience the switch to Custom Item Specifics in June, depending on their tool provider. Please contact your individual tool provider to learn more about the transition to Custom Item Specifics.
Handbags & Bags becomes its own high-level category section. As part of the change we plan to elevate Women's Handbags & Bags out of the Women's Accessories section, to increase the visibility of this vibrant market. Within this newly elevated section, we plan to create a distinct "Handbags, Purses" category, as well as new categories for other types of functional bags. Our goal is to capture a wider range of Handbag styles within the new Custom Item Specifics format. This new set of Item Specifics choices will offer buyers a more targeted range of filtering choices for Handbags.
What this means...
- Functional bags (items that carry specific objects, as distinct from handbags) will get their own new categories and should no longer be listed in the "Handbags, Purses" category. The new category structure is shown below.
- Sellers who have access to Custom Item Specifics will be provided a list of suggested Item Specifics for Style, Main Color, Material and Brand. Remember to use the eBay-offered choices whenever possible, to maximize your exposure in search results.
- For sellers who use 3rd party tool providers that are not transitioning to Custom Item Specifics in June, the updated list of Item Specifics below will operate as traditional eBay-provided Item Specifics.
