Greater Customer Reach
| SignWarehouse's professional quality listings and top notch customer service add up to more customers and success selling even high ticket items.
As soon as you open a SignWarehouse listing, you know it. Its graphical auction template is first rate. It not only promotes the product at hand, but also features an attractive merchandising placement, advertising the company's other product categories, from cutters to engravers. SignWarehouse is also committed to providing top-notch customer service with fast answers to customer inquiries and rapid delivery. "Customers need to know you're a reliable, committed seller. Being responsive to their questions is essential," explains Chris Gripp, president of SignWarehouse, which sells computer sign-making equipment and supplies.
"What is truly amazing to us is that we have been as successful selling $10,000.00 items as well as $10.00 items. That was a real stunner. We all thought just like everyone else, 'yeah you can sell the ten to fifteen-dollar items on eBay, but that's as far as it goes.' Now we're selling specialized equipment on eBay that goes for upwards of tens of thousands of dollars.
SignWarehouse started selling on eBay two years ago, but didn't take the marketplace very seriously. "It was my 16 year old son who pointed out how eBay could be a complement to our other sales channels. So we dabbled in eBay auctions for a number of months. But it wasn't until we elevated our eBay sales team to the same status as our other teams that sales took off. That's when our eBay sales blossomed. Now we are noticing that some of the new customers are making eBay their primary means of purchasing from us. That was a real surprise and eye-opener. It seemed the more attention and resources we threw at eBay, the more it produced for us."
Though eBay transactions currently represent a relatively small percentage of SignWarehouse's total sales, Gripp expects that to change as eBay becomes more integrated into its business, both as a sales channel and as a tool to net new customers. Moreover, Gripp attributes a goodly portion of SignWarehouse's recent growth to eBay sales conducted over the last year.
Gripp has high hopes for the Business & Industrial category, as well, and says similar businesses would be wise to invest in an eBay presence. "But don't just view it as a 'poor stepsister'. Give it the attention and resources it deserves. Take time to understand it. Make sure it gets integrated into your entire company. It definitely has worked out for us."
